Rules, Standards and Policies
The GRNZ is governed by the Rules of Racing. The Rules of Racing are determined by the Rules of Racing Committee and approved by the Racing Integrity Board (RIB) in accordance with the GRNZ Constitution and the 2020 Racing Industry Act and authorised by the GRNZ Board. These Rules are then administered by the Association through its Chief Executive, Racing Department and the RIB. To complement the Rules, GRNZ also issues and implements a number of regulations, standards and policies.

New GRNZ Rules of Racing (effective 1 February 2023)
Please note that on 14 February 2023, the GRNZ Board unanimously agreed to an Emergency Amendment to the GRNZ Rules of Racing pursuant to Rule 11A of the GRNZ Constitution. They unanimously resolved to suspend the application of Rule 102(1A) of the GRNZ Rules of Racing, effective 11:59pm 14 February 2023. Therefore, greyhounds are not required to undergo a satisfactory weight trial after a break in racing of 28 days.

Since then, following a period of consultation, the GRNZ Board unanimously resolved to permanently remove Rule 102(1A) of the GRNZ Rules of Racing at their April 2023 Board meeting, and also to permanently remove the reference to Rule 102(1A) in Rule 102(2).
Additionally, the GRNZ Board unanimously resolved to amend Rule 25(6) of the GRNZ Rules of Racing to bring it line with the corresponding Greyhounds Australasia Rule. This Rule now reads:
(6) Unless GRNZ determines otherwise, a greyhound must not compete in any Event within five days of the date it was administered a vaccine.
Please note also that at their 9 August 2023 meeting, the GRNZ Board approved the removal of LR29A(4) from the GRNZ Rules of Racing, after following the procedures required by the GRNZ Constitution and the Racing Industry Act 2020.
The Master GRNZ Rules of Racing document has been updated to reflect these amendments.
