Judicial report: The weather was fine early but heavy rain fell late in the programme. ERIC'S SONG who was stood down for 10 days with a pectoral muscle injury at Palmerston North on Monday 28.02.11 was rexamined on this day under the provisions of Rule 82.5 and the examining Vet confirmed the dogs injury and the original stand down to and including 09.03.11 will remain in place.
Trainer B.O'Connell was issued with a final warning after being late to kennel the dogs CLANG AND BANG and CLUAIN MEALA .

Race 1 Allied Work Force 0800 Labour C0 Ht1 - C0q - 305 Heat 1 POOR BOUNCE was slow to begin losing three lengths but made up ground well to finish in 4th place. ANITA WIN was checked and went down behind when tightened as runners drawn further out shifted in on the first corner and she lost several lengths. She was examined by the Vet as a precaution and cleared of injury. BILLY HAKA checked over the heels of MILLIE SWANSON on the bend losing several lengths and he stayed back to finish last.
Race 2 Harrison Hire Master C0 Ht2 - C0q - 305 Heat 2 POISON GRACE dropped back to the rear in the run to the first corner and then made firm contact with the rail losing further ground and she finished in 2nd last place. She was examined by the Vet and cleared of injury. MOANA BLUE was checked and fell on the first corner and she was also examined by the Vet and cleared of injury. HICCUP was checked and lost ground on the first corner but made up ground to finish in 4th place.
Race 3 Guthrie Bowron C0 - C0 - 520 TIPLA shifted in on the first turn and made firm contact with the rail and he stayed well back throughout the remainder of the race. TIPLA was examined by the Vet and cleared of injury.
Race 4 Crombie Lockwood (NZ) Ltd C0 Ht3 - C0q - 305 Heat 3 HOMEBUSH ZETA ran in very sharply at the start and checked GLENORCHY who settled at the rear but made up ground well for 4th place. URITI STORM who was having its first start, tailed the field throughout to finish several lengths last. The Stewards will monitor its performance at its next start and will expect a vast improvement.
Race 5 Palamountains Nutrition C1 - C1 - 305 HOMEBUSH BERRY and HOMEBUSH BREE disputed the lead on the first corner but were tightened and checked when the eventual winner LACHLAN VALLEY shifted in. As the checked runners dropped back, CRYSTAL SAL was severely checked losing several lengths and she finished in last place.
Race 6 OfficeMax C1 - C1 - 520 MUM KNOWS JACK ran out from the start and GUY BAXTER ran in and this resulted in checks to RYBENBROOK FLASH, HOMEBUSH WARRIOR, CATCH A GLIMPSE and THRILLING ANNIE who all lost ground. The favourite RYBENBROOK FLASH was again checked when entering the back straight and lost any chance of a first four placing due to both incidents.
Race 7 Gary Ross Decorator C1 - C1 - 305 One of the favourites BINTY FLAHERTY was slow to begin but showed early speed until the first corner where she had to check off the heels of HOMEBUSH KELLY and lost ground. She then ran wide on the bend and into the straight forcing VIBURNUM over extra ground and finished in 2nd last place. GOZO DANCER and ALAMEIN FLASH were checked back to the rear when tightened on the first corner.
Race 8 Broad Roofing Services C1 - C1 - 305 HAPPY CLAPPY shifted in on the first corner and checked FAWN ALLEGRO who lost three lengths and any chance of a first four placing.
Race 9 Morrie Gibbons Signs C1 - C1 - 305 YA GUNNA and DEL TONES were tightened and checked back to the rear on the first corner when pressured from the outside and they finished well back. DEL TONES suffered a gracilus muscle injury and was stood down for 28 days.
Race 10 Keenan Concrete Wanganui C1 - C1 - 520 IMAGE was inconvenienced and moved out a little wide going into the first corner when BOTANY GARETH shifted in to the rail on the first corner.
Race 11 Mickeys Super Liquor C1 - C1 - 305 STATELY BABE and KINGA COOP were tightened and checked on the first corner losing five lengths and they never recovered and finished in the rear group. GINA MAC was slow to begin and she was also affected in the incident on the first corner and lost further ground and finished in last place.
Race 12 www.wanganuicarcentre.com C2 - C2 - 305 The two most favoured runners ELEPHUNK and ULTIMATE SPICE were slow to begin and settled at the rear. BABY FALOU then shifted in on the first corner and checked ELEPHUNK back onto ULTIMATE SPICE with both dogs losing ground and they never recovered and although they made up some ground, they still finished in the last half of the field.
