Judicial report: Weather: Fine Trainer W Steele applied to the Stewards to have SHINE ON US excluded from the box draw for the Distance final on the grounds that the dog had not recovered sufficiently from its injury on 10 May for it to compete in this race. Under Rule 64.5 this permission was granted.

Race 1 | LECTRO HAIR & BEAUTY SPRINT - C3 - 318 | The boxes failed to open on the first attempt. All dogs were checked by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to race. The re run was hand started. The boxes had been working perfectly during trials and all switches were on. They were tested immediately after the race and again worked as they did for the remainder of the night. CAWBOURNE GREG and FERVID were both tightened into the bend and lost ground. CLEAR CONQUEST (BDF Craik) painful swelling at point of right elbow. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 64.12. 10 days up to and including 30 May 2009. |
Race 2 | MEADOWSET GRAPHICS STAKES - C1 - 527 | FLICK DA FLUTE was badly checked by THRILLING TIFF and DAPPER soon after the jump and then ran to the rail appearing to come into cintact with the rail at that point. He completed the race some distance away from the field. A post race veterinary check of FLICK DA FLUTE revealed a broken hock and the dog was euthanased on humane grounds. Into the first bend MAMBO SAM and STARSHINE GIRL tangled badly with resultant checks to DAPPER and THRILLING TIFF. Post race veterinary checks of MAMBO SAM and STARSHINE GIRL revealed no injuries. FLICK DA FLUTE (SP Clark) broken hock. Euthanased. |
Race 3 | CATCH RESTAURANT SPRINT - C2 - 318 | BIGTIME DANCER was slow from the inside box. Into the bend MANLY MAGIC was tightened and lost ground. When attempting to improve he checked KAMACO who also lost ground. |
Race 4 | GREHOUNDS NORTH MAIDEN SERIES - C0df - 603 | COMET PRINCESS was slow to jump. Out of the front straight LEGALLY BINDING ran out slightly pushing PERSUASION wider with an improving COMET PRINCESS receiving a check in behind them. On the home turn BIGTIME GUY was checked by CHAMSIN CREEK and PERSUASION dropping out to finish last. THRILLING CHASE (SC Mann) diarrhoea and injured wrist. Rule 64.14. 28 days up to and including 15 June 2009. |
Race 5 | PROTECTOR SAFETY SPRINT - C3 - 318 | GOLLY GEE ran outwards soon after the jump tightening YOUNG VALIANT and ANOTHER PRIDE who both lost ground. TO THE CREST checked off MOHICAN HARRY on the bend pushing ZETA JONES wide around that bend. Shortly after this DEVIL'S COUNTY ran wide on the home bend taking the line and coming together with TO THE CREST with both dogs losing their chances. WINSOME JESS (DD Schofield) starter in Race 1. |
Race 6 | THE ALAMO BAR & TAB SIX PACK - C4 - 318 | CONTAGEN was slow away. DAVINCI received a slight check from TERROR JIM and ran wide into the bend pushing CONTAGEN wider with both runners losing ground. |
Race 7 | THORNTON AUCTIONS STAKES - C2/3 - 527 | NIGHT ALERT ran inwards into the first bend coming together with SATSUMA and PAYNEFUL TRUTH. BOON DOCK was also checked at this point. NIGHT ALERT appeared to falter straight after this and dropped out to finish last. A post race veterinary check of NIGHT ALERT revealed a torn left gracilis with a twenty eight day stand down recommended. GENISTA FLYER (Freeman/Turnwald) deceased. NIGHT ALERT (SL Ross) torn left gracilis. Rule 82.1. 28 days up to and including 17 June 2009. |
Race 8 | PACIFIC SHEET & COIL (NZ) STAKES - C4/5 - 527 | SPY POWERS ran towards the rail at the jump tightening WILL SHE ECHO and APPOINTED THYME on his inner. Into the first bend SPY POWERS was tightened for room and ran outwards checking off BUZZ CAFÉ and falling. WILL SHE ECHO also fell in this incident. APPOINTED THYME and CATCHING ON were both severely checked as well with APPOINTED THYME making up a lot of ground for fourth. Post race veterinary checks were carried out on SPY POWERS and WILL SHE ECHO revealing grazes and contusions to SPY POWERS with a seven day stand down recommended. WILL SHE ECHO received no injuries. SPY POWERS (NP Green) grazes and contusions after fall. Rule 82.1. 7 days up to and including 27 May 2009. |
Race 9 | TERRY RYAN TIMBER SPRINT - C5 - 318 | ELITE DESTINY was tightened along the rail into the bend and settled at the rear. |
Race 10 | RACING AGAIN ON SUNDAY SPRINT - C1 - 318 | CAWBOURNE FELLA and HOMEBUSH TUI came together soon after the jump and again into the bend with both dogs remaining well back. |
