Judicial report: Weather: Fine LAGER IN PARIS (MM Grant) successfully completed a Satisfactory Trial as required under Rule 81.2.
SMASH KINGDOM (MM Grant) successfully completed a Satisfactory Trial as required under Rule 81.2.
The hearing under Rules 64.2 and 64.5 opened and adjourned at the Otago GRC on 23 April 2009 into the scratching of DON THE HOP (JR Goode) was reconvened. DON THE HOP had competed in a qualifying heat on 9 April for the final of a race held on 23 April and had not been advised that the dog was first reserve in that final. On 16 April Mr Goode had nominated the dog for a race in Wanganui and on 17 April became aware that the dog was a reserve in the final. Mr Goode telephoned the Otago club seeking to withdraw the dog. Subsequently a greyhound in the final had been withdrawn following an injury stand down. The field had been redrawn not taking into account that under Rule 82.5 the dog withdrawn under injury was re-examined and if declared free of injury could have been cleared to start. On checking the redrawn field there was in fact no mention of DON THE HOP as either a starter or reserve. If DON THE HOP had been a reserve as originally advised to the NZGRA by the club, Mr Goode would have had the opportunity under Rule 63.10 to withdraw what he in good conscience believed was the reserve dog. Taking into account the circumstances the Adjudicating Steward dismissed the charge.
