Health and Safety comment: See Race 1 incidents. A workplace accident investigation was completed with witnesses interviewed. Injured handler MS Hartland sustained superficial soft tissue injury to his left knee and a haematoma to his right lower back, and was released from hospital.
Judicial report: Weather: Fine GA CLEEVE was fined $50.00 for a breach of Rule 69.11 when LINE UP, a starter in Race 5 weighed in 1.3kgs above her last race start weight.
DL ROBERTS was charged with a breach of Rules 64.2 and 64.5 as a result of failing to present THAT'S SARAH, a starter in Race 6. Her representative AC ROBERTS elected to plead guilty to the charges. Trainer ROBERTS was fined $100.00 and THAT'S SARAH stood down for a period of 28 days up to and including 9 Februry 2009. THAT'S SARAH was a late scratching as a result.
DL ROBERTS was charged with a breach of Rule 80.1.a. as av result of her dog DAMO'S ANGEL marring in Race 12. Her representative AC ROBERTS admitted the charge. As a result DAMO'S ANGEL was stood down for a period of 3 months up to and including 13 April 2009 and to complete a Satisfactory Trial . DAMO'S ANGEL had previously been stood down at BRISBANE on 7 October 2008 for a 1st offence.
J McINERNEY was charged with a breach of Rule 88.1.q. as a result of his dog LE FLAMBEUR escaping from his during the stir up. After hearing the circumstances surrounding the incident, he was fined $25.00.
JM JOPSON was fined $50.00 for a breach of Rule 69.11, when CELTIC FLYER, a starter in Race 19 weighed in 1.5kgs under her last race start weight.

| Race 1 | ADVANCE PERFORMANCE SPRINT - C0 - 295 | CAWBOURNE FREDDY was slow to leave the starting boxes, and briefly came into contact with TEDETTE on the turn losing momentum but ran on in the home straight for 4th. In the run to the turn MULBERRY KING checked off the rear of CAWBOURNE HANDS and lost ground to finish in 6th place. At the conclusion of this race at the lure CAWBOURNE FREDDY ran wide and narrowly missed colliding with catcher KJ Cassidy. Catcher MS Hartland was not so lucky and was knocked over by this dog. An ambulance was summoned and Hartland taken to hospital. As a result from Race 2 all races were put back one race. Hartland was diagnosed with leg and pelvic bruising and released from hospital. |
| Race 2 | CHALLENGE OPAWA ALL UP SPRINT - C0 - 295 | TUKURUA ZAC was slow to jump and never recovered to finish last. In the run to the turn the early leader EASY FINANCE ran outwards and checked the running of DIRT TRAK COWBOY, while TARYN ROSE also moved outwards and forced BARBER'S GIRL wide. |

| Race 5 | KOLORFUL KANVAS STAKES HEAT 3 - C0q - 520 Heat 1 | From the jump HE'S A LION ran inwards and struck SHAZZ'S BABE. Into the first turn SLICK NOTCH pushed outwards and collided with HE'S A LION with these two dogs losing all chances to finish at the rear. A post race veterinary check on SLICK NOTCH revealed nothing amiss. |
| Race 6 | KOLORFUL KANVAS STAKES HEAT 4 - C0q - 520 Heat 1 | On the first turn the first starter PROTEST LINE ran out very wide and lost all chances to finish 6th. Into the first bend VERONICA pushed outwards onto JOHNNY DUNNIT with both dogs losing ground. At the end of the back straight when lying in second place HOMEBUSH NICK grazed the running rail when free of interference, losing ground, and was subject to a post race veterinary check which revealed nothing amiss. Into the first bend an improving WAITUI FURY climbed into the rear of early leader NITRO PEGGY who fell heavily. NITRO PEGGY regained her feet to finish a long last and was subject to a post race veterinary check revealed a mild sprain to the right hock with a 14 day stand down recommended. | Race 10 | DAVE ROBBIE PHOTOGRAPHER DASH - C1 - 295 | In the run to the turn MULBERRY RECO and REWIND HISTORY were checked as the field came together and HOMEBUSH MARLON went backwards and impeded the running of COLERIDGE KID with these two dogs filling the last two placings. From the jump HOMEBUSH MATE ran outwards and checked GENISTA SPIRIT and ROCKY POCKETS.On the turn ZAMMY was struck in the rear by HOMEBUSH MATE and stuumbled for a few strides before running on late for 4th. HOMEBUSH MATE and ZAMMY were subject to post race veterinary checks with no injury detected to either dog. GENISTA BRAVE (JE Dunn) late scratching at Southland GRC meeting on 8 January 2009. | Race 12 | SHIRLEY VETERINARY CENTRE STAKES HEAT 3 - C1q - 520 Heat 1 | On the first turn DAMO'S ANGEL ran outwards and forced JACKPOT JACK wide on the track. In the back straight GUINNESS LASS was tightened by DON THE HOP and lost ground, then DON THE HOP struck the rear of CLAN SLITHER who went back through the field to finish last. Into the home straight DAMO'S ANGEL when vying for second place turned its head and marred the running of BRAVE ENDEAVOUR. DAMO'S ANGEL was suspended for 3 months up to and including 13 April 2009 as this was his 2nd offence. | Race 13 | POWER FARMING LTD SPRINT - C1 - 295 | This race was delayed as a result of LE FLAMBEUR escaping from the control of his handler. The dog was subject to a veterinary check and cleared to race. In the race itself HAILSTONE HARLY and LE FLAMBEUR were slow to jump and finished at the rear of the field. |

In the back straight OFF THE RAILS tightened off the rear of SISTER DEE and went backwards into the path of ANOTHER SPECIAL who then ran out wide and pushed OFF THE RAILS wider. |

As CELTIC FLYER crossed down to the rail she forced DA COOLA back into the path of CHILE WILL HE and BENZENE with all three dogs finishing at the rear.
