Judicial report: Weather: fine Trainer T Selby was fined $50.00 under rule 69.11 for presenting PORT OF SPARTA to race 1.2 kgs up from his last race start on the 28.12.08
J Woolston Bell, handler in charge of GOOGLE MAGOO for trainer D Parata ,was fined $100.00 under Rule 88.1 p for disobeying the instructions of the stewards in the parade ring during revetting of dogs prior to making a decision on the rerunning of race two
The lure driver for race two Mr M Gardner--was asked for an explanation by the stewards as to what happened to the power to the lure during the running of the race ,as it failed after approx 200 metres
It appears that for some unknown reason the motor lost power soon after the lids opened and could not power away from the field at a acceptable distance
His explanation was accepted, and he did not wish to drive the lure again on the day .
The dogs were caught and bought back to the parade area where the vet revetted the runners, and three dogs were decleared unfit to continue ,so were declared late scratchings
After consultation with the veterinary surgeon and the trainers and club officals ,there were enough runners for a rerun
The veterinary surgeon Mr Peter Morris is to be commended for the efficent and professional manner in which he reassessed the dogs prior to making a decision to rerun race two
The lure motor was restarted and checked by the other lure driver Mr M Beeson and Curator Mr D Amundsen, the lure was retested and no fault found ,so the meeting was able to proceed
The programe was put back one race at the request of the stewards and the race was rerun without any problems
All five runners were checked over again by the vet post race at the request of the stewards with no problems found
An enquiry that was opened and adjourned at the Manawatu racing club on the 8.12.08 in to the training and condition of dogs in the care of owner trainer Ms D Crump has been wound up.
After enquires by the stewards in to Ms D Crumps circumstances and health issues in the preceding fortnight leading up to the meeting, the stewards have deceided that there are no charges to be laid
However Ms D Crump has been written to in respect of and has been made aware of her obligations under rules 111.1 to 111.6------.
