Stipendiary Stewards Report

Christchurch Greyhound Racing Club

Addington Raceway ON TUESDAY 20 May 2008

Weather:
Track: Good Good
Scales: Correct at all weights
Health and Safety comment: Following the No Race declared in Race 12, the boxes were examined and checked by the Club Curator, Club Electrician and Steward on 21 May 2008. When the lids were closed it was found that the outside latch to the lids did not drive home into a locked position. When lightly touching the release mechanism on the top of the boxes, the lids activated instantly. When closed again and the outside latch physically placed in the locked position, the release did not activate until pulled as it is designed to do. The club electrician undertook adjustment to the lid mechanism and hydraulic arms, and which appeared to correct the problem. A review of the race film and inquiries with the Starter on the night revealed that on touching the release mechanism, the lids had activated. Those observations and the checks carried out on 21 May 2008, supported the conclusion that the lids for Race 12 had not fully closed to a locked position prior to the race.
