Judicial report: Weather: fine &windy DUSTYS REWARD was stood down after race five under rule 81.1 for an unsatisfactory performance and must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards or an authorised person before being cleared to race again
NIAGARA CRESENT was a scratching in race five ,the trainer had advised that the dog was under veterinary care , the stewards were advised later in the day that the dog had passed away.
The inquiry in to the abandonment of race 10 at the Manawatu meeting on was reconvened.
After exstensive enquires by the stewards in the matter no charges were laid against any person, as after a written report from the clubs electrician Mr Paul Claridge it appears that the lure control system had a timing malfunction when the driver was attempting to set the lure in motion
In this instance the lure drivers explanation was accepted this time ,but he has been reminded of his obligations in the future as to contacting stewards immediatley should this problem arise again.
The starter was spoken to in regard s the handlers not being at the sprint boxes at the start of races ,her explanation was accepted as the club has a policy of letting handlers run back to the catching area and they have been going back as soon as the dogs are boxed away, consequently there was only one handler at the sprint boxes when the situation occurred of the lure not starting on the journey.
The lure drivers will be instructed to contact a steward immediatly in future should the lure not start up after the all clear is given.
After speaking with the club there have been new polices put in place as to requiring the handlers to remain at the boxes until the lids have lifted and the race has started, the starter has been asked to be very firm in reminding the handlers of their obligations at the start.
The club secretary has been advised that it is their obligations also to make sure that their employees are trained and made aware of processes regarding breakdowns and other problems that may arise on racedays in their particular areas.
