Race 10. This race was declared a 'No Race' when the Manual Release Lever located at the back of the boxes, was accidentally activated by a Handler, when the boxing of the second row runners was being completed. The lure had not been set in motion at this point however the boxes opened and the field galloped the full 457 mtr journey. Stewards decided that it was inappropriate to rerun the race due to animal welfare considerations which were endorsed by the Officiating Veterinary Surgeon. The boxes were tested several times by Club Officials and Stewards following the no race along with reviewing the video replay of the start in order to confirm the reason for the premature release. The Club has undertaken to make modifications to the Manual Release Lever so as to prevent a reoccurrence. Race 12 from the 457 mtr boxes was run without incident as had three races prior to Race 10.

An Inquiry was opened and adjourned in relation to remarks made about the Northern Region Stipendiary Steward and GRNZ in a posting on the Race Cafe internet website on 28.11.06. Consideration is being given to an alleged breach of Rules 88.1(f), 88.1(o) and 88.1(q).
