***********
Race 11. As the lure commenced it's run up to the starting boxes it was noticed that the lid of the boxes (inside track end) had become loose from the clip / locking mechanism allowing some additional movement in that end of the lid. Immediately following the race Stewards reviewed the start several times from the 'side' and 'head on' views and determined that the lid had opened evenly and that no runner was clearly disadvantaged as a result of the partial malfunction and the 'all clear' for the race was given.
The Starter was questioned regarding the matter and he confirmed that by the time the partially loose lid was detected, the lure was in motion / gathering speed and in his opinion to cancel the start at that point was not a realistic option. Stewards have reminded him that he is required to double check the lid of the boxes to ensure that both ends are securely held by the clip / locking mechanism prior to him signalling to the Lure Driver to set the lure in motion.
