Auckland Greyhound Racing Club

Manukau Stadium ON THURSDAY 30 Mar 2006

Weather:
Track: Good Good
Scales: Correct at all weights
Health and Safety comment:

Judicial report: Weather: Fine / warm Race 5. Smokey Toes (D.M.Smith) was ordered to complete a Satisfactory Trial under Rule 81 prior to nomination to race again due to an incident in the home straight and a subsequent post-race veterinary examination detecting injury. The Officiating Veterinary Surgeon advised Stewards that the injury would have most likely caused the incident.
************
Race 6. David Schofield was questioned regarding the reason why he had failed to catch the greyhound Hot Dickadee in this race when he had agreed to do so. Mr Schofield's extenuating circumstance on this occasion was accepted.
************
Race 8. Homebush Westie (R.P.O'Regan) has been removed from the 'hard to box' categorisation effective immediately following assessment and discussion with the trainer.
************
The new weighing scales installed and certified accurate on 22 March 2006 (expires 22 March 2007) were tested by Stewards prior to the commencement of weighing at today's race meeting and no irregularities were detected. During the extensive staggered kenneling / weighing process required to accommodate greyhounds for 16 races it became apparent through the reweighing of a runner in Race 13 at the request of the trainer, that an unexplainable weight variance 'may' exist. Stewards interviewed D.Green, Head Kennel / Weighing Official after the last race and also took into account the fact that individual greyhound weight variances from their previous race start were not unexpected due to the day versus night race meeting factors and indeed the fact that the majority of the 124 greyhounds weighed showed no or minimal weight variance. As a precautionary measure Stewards decided that all 1kg + or - weight variance infringements / penalties would be waived at this race meeting. The AGRC have been instructed to ensure that the scales supplier rechecks the scales for accuracy and conducts in-depth training for the club's weighing officials prior to the next race meeting on 12 April. It should be noted by trainers that it is was not conclusive that the scales were definitely weighing incorrectly at this race meeting and only 'uncertainty' existed. Of the 124 greyhounds weighed only 4 alleged irregularities were made known to Stewards by weighing officials and trainers.
*************
Following the conclusion of the race meeting Stewards' held a lengthy meeting with the President and General Manager of the AGRC regarding Raceday Officials, weighing scales operation / training and Veterinary services.
************
An objection lodged on 05.03.06 by Trainer K.Walsh and on behalf of Owner G.Harding in relation to the AGRC CO Maiden Selection Criteria has been upheld by the GRNZ Stewards' Adjudicating Panel.
************
The Officiating Veterinary Surgeon was Mr. J. Steel-Currall BVSc.
