Health and Safety comment:

Judicial report: Weather: Fine / hot Prior to Race 1 Trainer P.B.Freeman sought clarification on Rule 70.8 in relation to any greyhound not being permitted to be kennelled with any apparatus on its 'head' other than a muzzle approved by the Stewards. Mr Freeman was advised that his comments / interpretation would be referred to the NZGRA Racing Manager for consideration.

Race 6. Montecito (D.P.Symes) was determined under Rule 69.11 to have a 1.4kg underweight variance form it's previous race start. A $50.00 fine was imposed (first offence).
****************
Following Race 6, Handler David Schofield was reminded of the policy in relation to acceptable post race fluids being given to greyhounds selected for swabbing.
****************
Race 7. This race was delayed 15 minutes when the lure carriage failed to respond to the Lure Driver's efforts to set it in motion. The initial assessment was that it appeared to be a power failure. The greyhounds were removed from the starting boxes via the rear doors and underwent inspection by the Officiating Veterinary Surgeon who in consultation with the Handlers declared all runners 'fit to race'.
Attempts were made to restore power to the lure carriage without success resulting in it being replaced with another. This was tested extensively and operated to the satisfaction of the Lure Driver.
The field was reboxed and the race was run with the lure carriage appearing to operate normally. Following the finish of the race the Lure Driver advised that there was a power surge to the lure carriage just prior to the finish line and further investigation was undertaken by the track maintenance team. Prior to Race 8 it was determined that there was an exposed wire causing 'shorting' at a running rail connection point. This was repaired and the Lure Driver's control panel replaced as a precaution resulting in no further problems being experienced. The Club's maintenance team is to be complimented for the manner in which they conducted their investigation and repairs resulting in race delays being minimized.
****************
A Stewards inquiry into an incident which occurred in a public area at the previous race meeting held on 02.02.06 is continuing.
