Stipendiary Stewards Report

Auckland Greyhound Racing Club

Manukau Stadium ON SUNDAY 20 Nov 2005

Weather:
Track: Good Good
Scales: Correct at all weights
Health and Safety comment:

Judicial report: Weather: Fine/Warm. Prior to Race 1, Trainer W.Steele expressed concern about the track surface and the slower race times being registered. The matter was discussed with the Club Judicial Steward (B.McGhie) and Track Manager (A.Coker) and an additional inspection undertaken. It was determined that the track surface is continuing to consolidate and improve following recent resurfacing and that the Club is doing everything possible to expedite the desired surface. It was again considered that at no time has the track surface been unsafe and this has been endorsed by the fact that there have been no track related injuries reported at the past two race meetings.

Race 6. Hey Zeus (F.D.Farmer) was a late scratching under NZGRA Rule 269.3 due to a 1.7kg overweight variance from its previous race start. $100.00 mandatory fine imposed.

Race 6. A Stipendiary Steward inquiry was opened into an incident observed nearing the end of the back straight involving the racing manners of Thrilling Bonny. Trainer N.Udy was shown several video replays of the incident and a charge under NZGRA Rule 322.1 was considered. Mr Udy suggested that the action of Thrilling Bonny may have resulted from the greyhound having made contact with the running rail which could not be conclusively confirmed nor denied from the video coverage (no 'head on') available or the Track Steward positioned near the incident. The post race veterinary examination of Thrilling Bonny detected stopper bone ligament soreness affecting the wrist and requiring a 10 day stand down from racing. Taking all relevant factors into account the decision was made not to proceed with a charge however a Satisfactory Trial under NZGRA Rule 179.1 was imposed and to be completed prior to being nominated to race.

The AGRC Judicial Committee Hearing into an Official Complaint lodged by Mrs G. Farrell against Mr S.C.Mann on 01 November 2005 and resulting in charges being brought against Mr Mann under NZGRA Rules 130.1 and 134.10 ( c ) was reconvened. The previous Hearing was adjourned by the Judicial Committee (Mr E.Doherty) on 13.11.05 after finding that Mr Mann had breached Rule 134.10 ( c ) and in order to allow Mr Mann an opportunity to take advice and make submissions as to penalty. Following the presentation of Mr Mann's submissions today the Judicial Committee imposed a two month disqualification of licence effective 01 December 2005 and costs of $450.00.
************
The AGRC Judicial Committee (Mr N.McGough) released his comprehensive decision on 15.11.05 in relation to charges brought against Trainer Mr R.P.O'Regan under NZGRA Rules 226 and 256 (a) as a result of the scratching of the greyhound 'Tourist Jack' from a race at the AGRC on 30.10.05. The decision states that Mr O'Regan did breach both rules and therefore the charges are upheld. No penalty has been imposed on Mr O'Regan other than he has been ordered to pay costs of $50.00 to the AGRC.
