Judicial report: Weather: Fine Race 3. Cowboy Dreamer and Sable Gold both trained by K.W.Symes were late scratched under Rule 269.3 due to being 1.7kg overweight from their previous race starts. The mandatory fine of $100 on each count was imposed and accepted by Mr Symes.

Race 3. Trainer / handler K.W.Symes was warned under Rule 294 in relation to the dress code requirement when handling a greyhound on the track at a race meeting.

Race 7. Trainer / handler H.R.Bond was spoken to advisedly in relation to the required manner of extracting a greyhound off the lure at the conclusion of a race.

Race 9. Thrilling Hubba (K.Walsh) was observed and reported to be 'hard to box'. Following discussion with the trainer it was decided that this greyhound's boxing manners will be assessed at it's next race start.

Race 9. Following this race the Starter (D.Henwood) reported that My Charlston (3rd) (D.Schofield) had become free at the 457mtr starting point, trotted a short distance behind the boxes and was recaptured very quickly. In their opinion the greyhound had not suffered any injury or stress and therefore no further veterinary examination was deemed necessary. Mr Schofield (Trainer but not the handler of My Charlston) and Mr Henwood were questioned as to the reasons for the incident and their explanations accepted on this occasion. Mr Henwood was reminded of the required communication procedure in such cases.

Swabbing Steward, W. Henwood, was reprimanded for a breach of Rule 282.3(f) in relation to security of the swabbing kennel area resulting in the post race swab of He's Off being abandoned.

Trainers and Handlers are acknowledged for their efforts to ensure that Catchers were present for all races.

Race 1 STEEN & MORROW LTD STAKES - C1/2 - 457 Thrilling Hugo was very slow to begin, raced up to be midfield then ran home strongly in the home straight to win well. Entering the first turn Our Freddie and Thrilling Dash raced in tight quarters. Entering the first turn Rothvale Reason was vying for the lead when it made contact with the running rail, lost a length and shortly after had it's heels clipped by Thrilling Hugo. A post race veterinary examination of Rothvale Reason detected an injury requiring a stand down from racing. Rothvale Reason (B & L Craik). Sore right wrist on flexion and over stopper bone ligaments. Rule 329. 10 days up to and including 05.11.05.
Race 2 FAIRVIEW MOTORS TE RAPA DASH - C1 - 375 Miss MacSteele and Sea Drifter were the slowest to begin. Entering the first turn Kath ran inwards and Just Hasty outwards causing tightening which resulted in checks to themselves, Colonel Hogan, Miss MacSteele and Sea Drifter. Colonel Hogan moved outwards on the bend and carted Miss MacSteele and Sea Drifter wide. Ona Run (D.L.Annette). Late scratching. Gastroenteritis. Vet certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 05.11.05.
Race 3 PERRY AGGREGATES LTD MAIDEN - C0 - 457 Fortified Hope, Joebees Jet and Ray Reeb were the slowest to begin. Sun Of Jonelle and Ray Reeb came together after the start with Sun Of Jonelle being checked. Nearing the first turn Ray Reeb ran inwards checking Sun Of Jonelle and forcing that runner inwards which resulted in jostling between Ray Reeb, Sun Of Jonelle and Fortified Hope on entering the turn. Sun Of Jonelle moved outwards on the bend which forced Ray Reeb to cover extra ground. Cowboy Dreamer (K.W.Symes). Late scratching. 1.7kg weight variance from last race start. Rule 269.3. No stand down. Sable Gold (K.W.Symes). Late scratching. 1.7kg weight variance from last race start. No stand down.
Race 4 BERRY DRILLING CO LTD STAKES - C4/5 - 457 Mr Blackout and Bevron Road were the slowest to begin. Magical Spell ran outwards and Bevron Road inwards after the start causing checks to themselves and Mr Blackout. Entering the first turn Awesome Cole and Willandra Bale came together for a stride. Bevron Road tripped for a stride on straightening for the run to the finish.
Race 5 ROLY BOLTON LTD SPRINT - C2 - 375 Entering the first turn general tightening resulted in checks to Hove Dale, Sand Dancer, Tent Top, Cosmic Eclipse and Maxine's Beauty. Shortly after Maxine's Beauty galloped on the hind quarters of and severely checked Tent Top then fell heavily itself. A post race veterinary examination of Maxine's Beauty detected no injury.
Race 6 HAUTAPU VET CLINIC DASH - C2/3 - 375 Charlston Flash and Boss Brentin came together after the start with both being checked. Charlston Flash ran on in the home straight to finish 5th. Ballibeast was checked on the first turn. Boss Brentin was tightened slightly on the first turn then drifted out to finish a distant last. A post race veterinary examination of this runner detected an injury requiring a stand down from racing. Winsome Dot was midfield early and never improved finishing 7th. Boss Brentin (B & L Craik). Left gluteal soreness / dropping on digital pressure. Rule 329. 7 days up to and including 02.11.05.
Race 7 COGSWELL SURVEYS LTD STAKES - C1 - 457 Thrilling Zoe, Booming Time and Richfield Reason were the slowest to begin. Thrilling Zoe was well back early and ran home strongly in the straight. Nearing the first turn King Of Dreams ran outwards across the heels of Music Lesson, checked itself and also severely checked Richfield Reason in the process. Booming Time was denied racing room on the first turn and then finished well for 3rd.
Race 8 DENIS COLE MEMORIAL WAIKATO SPRINT - C5 - 375 Whata Shame stumbled at the start, lost 4 lengths and was always at the rear thereafter. Romberg Reason was tightened and checked slightly on the first turn. Mr Pollywaffle ran very wide on the bend.
Race 9 GENERAL ENGRAVERS 2003 LTD NZ RACING SERIES - FINAL - RESf - 457 Thrilling Faith, Charlston State, Charlston Kid, Certainly and Thrilling Hubba were the slowest to begin. Charlston State, Certainly and Thrilling Faith came together after the start. Entering the first turn Thrilling Hubba moved inwards, checked itself and Keenjackaroo which came back onto Charlston Kid and Charlston State which were also checked. Thrilling Sassy (N.Udy). Scratched from race final prior to box draw. Swollen and painful left dew claw. Vet certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 03.11.05.
Race 10 CAMBRIDGE TAB STAKES - C3/4 - 457 Prince Toshack was tightened and severely checked at the start then ran on strongly to finish 3rd. Stinger Bart and Slice Of Moon came together after 30 mtrs. Fancy Style was denied racing room entering the first turn then moved outwards across the heels of Secret Teddy and checked itself. Krackem was also severely checked in this incident.
