Judicial report: Weather: Overcast Following pre race meeting discussion involving the Club Electrician, Club Judicial Steward / Committee, Starter and Stipendiary Steward the decision was reached to hand start all 527 mtr races as a result of the continuing uncertainty as to the starting box malfunctions which had occurred at the two previous race meetings. Extensive testing of the fully auto triggering system will continue in the immediate future and the 'method of starting' options reviewed prior to the next race meeting to be held on 20.08.05.

Race 1 AUCKLAND BLUES HURDLES - C1/2h - 527 Aranui Tui was a late scratching due to injury. Shaka Malawi and Kotuku Aranui came together for a stride after the start. Pitstock Jazz jumped hesitantly at the rear throughout and finished a distant last. Aranui Tui (M.N.Boyd). Late scratching. Sore thoracic epaxial muscles. Vet certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 22.08.05.
Race 2 STREETS ICECREAM STAKES - C4/5 - 527 Nitro Bird was scratched due to injury. Lindale Express and Shining Comet were slow to begin. Mo Mistress and Buck's Reward came together after the start with Mo Mistress being checked and recovering well for 4th. My Charlston endeavoured to push through on the rail on the inside of Idol Appeal (winner) on the first turn with both suffering checks. Entrepreneur moved outwards on the first bend and severely checked Buck's Reward. Shining Comet moved outwards entering the home straight and bumped Lindale Express. Nitro Bird ( D.Schofield). Crepitus and pain on examination of fractured tail. Vet certificate supplied. Rule 259. 21 days up to and including 31.08.05.
Race 3 CAROLS TAB SPRINT - C1 - 318 Dr Dal Santo (2nd) and Miss MacSteele (3rd) were the slowest to begin. Our Shereena, Sea Master and Candy Coated came together after the start with Our Shereena being checked. Peter Hand and Our Polar came together for a stride after the start. Peter Hand was tightened and severely checked on the first turn. Down the back straight Peter Hand was tightened and checked again losing 4 lengths. Candy Coated (favourite and 7th) was also severely checked in the backwash from this incident. Our Shereena ran very wide on the home turn and lost valuable ground.
Race 4 BELLBIRD ARMS STAKES FINAL - C1f - 527 Sea Drifter and Just Curly were slow to begin. Last Account (2nd =) jumped awkwardly and was slow. Sea Drifter and Thrilling Sassy came together for several strides after the start. Entering the first turn general tightening caused checks to Friendly Virus, Just Curly, Thrilling Sassy and Bonified. Friendly Virus moved outwards on the first bend checking Bonified. Thrilling Sassy ran wide on the home turn and then finished on well.
Race 5 MEADOWSET GRAPHICS STAKES - C2/3 - 527 Hopplar was scratched due to injury. Cosmic Eclipse (3rd), Trendy Time, Certainly and Ash's Assassin were the slowest to begin. Whata Charm moved outwards on the first turn severely checking Certainly. Hopplar (N.P.Green). Injured right shoulder. Vet certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 19.08.05.
Race 6 JIMBO'S PETFOOD DASH - C3 - 318 On the first turn Christopher Bale (4th) moved outwards slightly causing Rock It Hound to be severely checked which also moved outwards as a result and severely checked Final Objective. Final Objective then ran inwards on the bend and severely checked itself and Christopher Bale.
Race 7 SHIFNAL CHIEF SYN. DISTANCE SIX PACK - HT 2 - C1dq - 603 Heat 1 Our Madge and Under Time were slow to begin. Den Of Fire endeavoured to move outwards off the rail on the first turn encountered traffic problems and was severely checked.
Race 8 COMMERCIAL PLUMBING DASH - C4/5 - 318 Blue Paragon was scratched due to injury. Poetical (4th) ran inwards after the start and hampered Nasty Streak slightly. Osbourne (2nd) and Gold Strike (3rd) came together nearing the first turn. Marissa Bale and Tarrah (favourite and 6th) came together entering the first turn with Tarrah being slightly checked. Nasty Streak ran outwards on the bend severely checking Sue Van Gill. Blue Paragon ( D.van Meeuwen ). Sore left gracilis muscle. Vet certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 21.08.05. Illegitimate ( S & J Cole ). 100 km reserve, Rule 254. No penalty.
Race 9 DENNY'S STAKES - C1 - 527 Tent Top and Ona Run were slowest to begin. Music Lesson (3rd) ran inwards after the start causing crowding and checks to Tempest Lass (2nd), El Paso Princess and Ona Run. Entering the first turn Tempest Lass moved to the rail and hampered Miss Another in the process.
Race 10 RADIO PACIFIC DASH - C2 - 318 It was reported and observed that the handler of Rawhiti Rogue had difficulty boxing this runner which delayed the start momentarily. Rawhiti Rogue and Rumpole (4th) were slow to begin. Foreign Diplomat moved outwards shortly after the start and hampered Don Paulie (2nd). Rawhiti Rogue lost co-ordination of its galloping action prior to the first turn which continued throughout the race, taking no competitive part and finishing a distant last. A post race veterinary examination detected no immediate injury. The Trainer's representative on - course was shown the video replay of the boxing procedure and the race performance of Rawhiti Rogue. His explanation for the boxing delay was endorsed by the Starter. Following further discussion with the Veterinary Surgeon at the conclusion of the race meeting and reviewing video replays of the performance several times, a decision was made to impose a Satisfactory Trial on Rawhiti Rogue under Rule 179.1 and the Trainer has been advised accordingly. Tempest Will moved inwards on the first turn and checked Foreign Diplomat. Rawhiti Rogue (S.M.Wright). Satisfactory Trial required prior to nomination. Rule 179.1.
