Cambridge Raceway ON FRIDAY 05 Aug 2005

Weather:
Track: Good Firm
Scales: Correct at all weights
Health and Safety comment:

Judicial report: Weather: Fine Race 1. Following this race Someone (N.P.Green) was removed from the 'hard to box' classification under Rule 302.3. The greyhound had boxed without difficulty at it's previous two starts (23.06.05 and 28.07.05) in addition to today.
Hang On Mate (D.M.Smith) was a late scratching due to non - presentation. Mrs Smith was contacted from the track and stated that she was of the opinion that the greyhound had not gained a start at the race meeting as a result of a telephone conversation with another trainer. A 30 day stand down penalty was therefore imposed on Hang On Mate under Rule 257.1.
*************
Race 2. Watch My Spot (M.Elton) has been ordered to complete a Satisfactory Trial and prior to nomination under Rule 179.1 due to an unsatisfactory race performance. A post race veterinary examination detected no injury.
*************
Prior to Race 1 several Trainers and the Starter expressed concern about the opening speed (slow) of the 457 mtr starting box lid during pre race meeting trials conducted by the Club.
Following the completion of the trials which had not appeared to cause any greyhound conclusive difficulty leaving the boxes, a meeting of all relevant Raceday Officials' was called with the Judicial Committee (A.Booth) to discuss the concerns. Those present were the Club President, Club Judicial Steward and Stipendiary Steward.
Although it was recognized that the starting box lid opening function was not at the usual speed it was not considered likely to deny any greyhound a fair start. It was agreed that it would not possible to make any adjustments to the starting box lid mechanism prior to the first 457 mtr race (Race 3 ) nor during the race meeting with 18 minute intervals between races. Consequently the decision was made to closely monitor the four 457 mtr races on the programme to ensure that no greyhound was denied a fair start.
Following Race 3, it was considered that the opening speed, although not ideal, was safe and acceptable and this remained the situation for all remaining 457 mtr races.
The Club is to carry out extensive checks, make the necessary adjustments to these boxes and provide a report to the Racing Manager, NZGRA prior to their next race meeting to be held on 10.08.05.
************
No race related injuries were reported from this race meeting.
