Otago Greyhound Racing Club

Forbury Park Raceway ON THURSDAY 12 May 2005

Weather:
Track: Good Firm
Scales: Correct at all weights
Health and Safety comment:

Judicial report: Weather: Overcast / Showers Race 1. Following this race the Starter was questioned and reported that the hook on the latch holding down the inside track end of the starting boxes lid, had failed to grip properly due to the forward pressure created by the greyhounds in the boxes resulting in one end of the lid becoming free immediately prior to the dispatch. He advised that immediate adjustments had been made and the hook on the latch would be filed as soon as possible in order to try and prevent any reoccurrence.
The adjuster arm on the end of the boxes was also adjusted and another spring which holds the latch down was used, however this did not alleviate the problem and therefore the filing mentioned above is definitely required.
Concerns about the start were expressed by trainers J.T.McInerney and J.H.Cleary.
**************
Race 6.
This race was declared a 'No Race' due to a strand of wire rope coming loose on the lure wire rope causing a 'birds nest' effect on the rope resulting in a loss of tension and the rope dislodging from the pulleys' at the drive point. This caused the lure carriage to stop on the final bend. The runners caught the lure and the decision was made not to rerun the race due to the distance the runners had travelled. The officiating Veterinary Surgeon agreed with this decision. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
**************
Race 7. Every effort was made to repair the wire rope damage in order to run this race however tests conducted resulted in the same problem occurring and it became apparent that the problem was too significant to be repaired on the day and the race was subsequently abandoned. The Club Secretary was advised that a full report on the fault, damage and repairs needed to the wire rope must be submitted to the Racing Manager, NZGRA at the earliest possible opportunity.
