Stipendiary Stewards Report

Auckland Greyhound Racing Club

Manukau Stadium ON WEDNESDAY 27 Apr 2005

Weather:
Track: Good Firm
Scales: Correct at all weights
Health and Safety comment:

Judicial report: Weather: Partly cloudy Race 1. The boxing manners of Bedas Boy were discussed with trainer G.Calverley after the race and as a result it was agreed that the 'Hard to Box' classification for this greyhound will be assessed further at it's next race start with a view to removing it from the classification.
**********
Race 9. D.Schofield the new trainer of Ash's Assassin (5th) was questioned regarding the racing manners of this greyhound and in particular after it had crossed the finishing line and proceeded to jump the running rail security fence to gain entry to the track interior.
The greyhound did not show any desire to finish the race to the point where the lure was stopped.
Mr Schofield's comments were of interest and it was noted that the greyhound had previously raced in Victoria, Australia where catching pens are used and it had trialled well on the Auckland track in the lead up to tonight's race although on that occasion it had received an unobstructed view of the lure throughout. Mr Schofield was advised that the racing manners of the greyhound will be closely monitored in the immediate future.
***********
Two lure malfunctions were encountered. The first prior to Race 1 causing an 8 minute delay and the second prior to Race 10 causing a 4 minute delay. In both cases there was a loss of power between the Lure Driver control tower and the lure carriage.
Although the reason for the malfunctions was not conclusive on the night it has since been determined that the problem was indeed electrical and involved the soldered joints on the running rail. The matter has and will continue to receive the urgent attention of the Club Electrician and Track Manager prior to the next race meeting on 03.05.05.
***********
All Raceday Officials, TAB Trackside,Trainers, Handlers and Catchers are thanked for their combined co-operation which minimized the race delays encountered and assisted in getting the programme back on time so quickly.
***********
There were no reported injuries on the night requiring stand down from racing.
