Track: Good Firm
Scales: Correct at all weights
Health and Safety comment:

Judicial report: Weather: Fine A Judicial Committee hearing was reconvened into a charge under Rule 135.1 against trainer G.A.Lawrence resulting from an incident which occurred in the parade ring prior to Race 10 on the programme at the Waikato and Districts GRC held on 08.02.05. The incident involved muscle stretching being undertaken by G.A.Lawrence on a greyhound for which he was not the designated handler. After hearing all evidence, the Judicial Committee (B.O'Rourke) upheld the charge and a fine of $75 was imposed.
********
Trainer M.M.Grant expressed concern that the Club did not have a back up electronic timing system for the race meeting, rather than the usual hand timing should the existing system malfunction during the heats of the NZ Derby.
*********
Kennelling time was extended for several trainers due to unpredicted major roadwork and traffic delays between South Auckland and Huntly.
*********
Race 9. Part-owner / handler of Mondo Canpione (J.McMenamin) was questioned regarding his late arrival for kennelling. His explanation was accepted on this occasion however he was warned that under Rule 262 the greyhound could be scratched and charges laid against the licenced person responsible.
*********
An application was received from trainer D.Schofield for 'Special Fancy' to be declared 'Hard to Box' due to the greyhound's unruly boxing manners. This decision will be made prior to the greyhound's next race start in consultation with the Starter and Judicial Steward.
*********
Concerns were expressed by several catchers after Race 1 that the lure had not stopped in the usual position on the track at the end of the race. The Lure Driver was questioned and advised that every attempt was made to apply the brake on the lure however several of the runners attempted to push it further around the track and the brake was unable to withstand the pressure.
*********
Race 1. Handler J.McInerney Jnr lodged a verbal complaint into the start of the race. He claimed that the runner he was handling, Goodtime Thelma, was protruding from the back of the starting boxes and was therefore denied a fair start. This had not been supported by the video replay of the race which clearly indicated that the runner began on equal terms with several other runners in the race and the back door on box 5 was closed. The Starter was questioned regarding the complaint and he advised that the only protrusion noticed just as the lure reached the starting boxes was a short portion of tail through a minimal gap at the bottom of the back door on box number 5. In his opinion Goodtime Thelma may have pushed backwards against the door whilst in the boxes which caused it to lift slightly. In addition he did not consider the start or circumstances to be unusual nor did he consider the runner in question to have been denied a fair start.
J.McInerney Jnr was shown a video replay of the start several times and was advised that the matter would not be investigated further. He was also reminded of the procedural requirements should he choose to lodge a Notice of Objection under Rule 315 which he did not proceed to do.
*********
Complaints were received from several trainers during the duration of the race meeting claiming that the track was being watered too frequently resulting in slower times than usual especially in Races 1 to 4. The complaints were relayed on to and discussed with P.Henley the Club President.
*********
Race 6. The trainer / handler of Fossil (N.P.Green) was questioned regarding his decision to decline assistance from a Raceday Official with the transportation of the greyhound from the track to the kennel block following an injury sustained during the race. Although the actions of N.P.Green are not condoned his reasons and explanation did have sufficient validity for them to be relayed to the Club Secretary who has undertaken to discuss other transportation options with the appropriate Raceday Officials.
*********
Trainer S.P.Mann was spoken to advisedly by the Judicial Steward in relation to derogatory comments made following the running of Race 6 and his conduct whilst in the Secretary's office is still subject to investigation.
*********
Race 9. Following a verbal complaint being received from a handler in Race 9 the owner of Mr Blackout (B.A.Hoole) was spoken to advisedly by the Head Kennel Steward, Judicial Steward and again by the Stipendiary Steward regarding his conduct on-course. He was advised of the standard of behaviour required of Licenced Persons and was requested to adopt a more controlled approach towards his verbal comments and involvement at the race meeting, which he agreed to do.
