Judicial report: Weather: Fine / Warm Race 6. Two false starts occurred in this race.
Following the withdrawal of Thrilling Faith (K.Walsh) and the subsequent late scratching of the greyhound, the Stipendiary Steward chose to discuss informally the circumstances and sequence of events surrounding the withdrawal, with the Judicial Committee at the earliest possible convenience, which was after Race 10.
As a result of this discussion and previous inquiries made by the Judicial Steward to the Veterinary Surgeon who was positioned at the 527mtr starting point of the race and for the entire duration of the false starts and eventual rerun in order to carry out physical assessments of the runners, the decision was made to impose Rule 257.1 on the withdrawal / non presentation of Thrilling Faith which requires a 30 day stand down from racing. It may well be that Rule 256(a) was also breached in this incident.
Race 10. Following the running of this race the Stipendiary Steward proceeded to lay a charge with the Judicial Committee against Big Teddy Boy (K. Sutch-Jones) under Rule 322.1(b). A Veterinary examination had been conducted prior to the hearing which detected no abnormalities. The video replay of the incident was viewed several times and discussed by the parties involved. The charge was consequently withdrawn due to uncertainties and in particular the lack of 'head on' video coverage of the incident. The Stipendiary Steward ordered that a Satisfactory Trial under Rule 179.1 be undertaken by Big Teddy Boy prior to being nominated to race.

Race 1	STEPHEN FLEMING DASH - C0 - 318	Hopplar was slow to begin. Hove Dale moved outwards slightly on the first turn bumping Running Tiger which also moved outwards and took the path of Hopplar which made contact with the hind quarters of Running Tiger which fell as a result with Hopplar also falling heavily over the top of it. Dalikah and Justa Half Pint were also severely checked in this incident. Running Tiger and Hopplar were ordered to undergo Veterinary examinations which detected no abnormalities.
Race 2	STREETS ICE CREAM DASH - C1 - 318	Rawhiti Rogue ran inwards at the start tightening Time Over Boots, First Sample and Tempest Will. This group of runners then moved inwards severely checking Charlston Zoom and Forever Running. Telescopic Lass and Rock It Hound jostled on the first turn with Time Over Boots and Rawhiti Rogue receiving checks. First Sample moved off the rail on the bend checking Charlston Zoom.
Race 3	BRETT LEE STAKES - C0 - 527	Wairangi Bay was slow to begin. Bet She Can and Charlston Deal came together entering the first turn and then in a chain reaction of interference Hang On Mate, Mr Chad and Sold Out were checked and Wairangi Bay was forced to cover extra ground.
Race 4	RICKY PONTING DASH - C1 - 318	Bedas Boy was boxed first due to a current 'Hard to Box' categorisation and was observed to box without difficulty. Bedas Boy ran inwards at the start checking Bubba Hotep and Dr Dal Santo. Bus Painter clipped the heels of Queen Rowley on the first turn with both runners suffering checks. Bus Painter was pushed outwards by Bubba Hotep on the bend.
Race 5	COMMERCIAL PLUMBING DASH - C1 - 318	Charlston Time ran outwards on the bend causing tightening and a check to Smooth Harry. King Of Dreams and Golden Lobo were forced very wide in this incident with King Of Dreams recovering well to finish 4th. Tippy Soprano which finished second, endeavoured to move outwards in the home straight but was prevented from doing so by the eventual winner Togetherness.
Race 6	CHRIS CAIRNS STAKES - C1 - 527	This race started 8 minutes late due to two false starts. Thrilling May was withdrawn by the trainer following the second false start and was therefore a late scratching. Under Time and Graphics were slow to begin with both runners making up ground well to finish 2nd and 3rd respectively. Bit Of Grit and Full Force Gale came together for several strides on the first turn. Bannister Lad was required to undergo a post race Veterinary examination which detected no abnormalities. The starting boxes failed to open in this race and the runners were removed to allow for assessment of the malfunction and the physical state of the greyhounds competing. It was thought that the failed start was due to a fault with the solenoid on the triggering mechanism which received immediate attention from the Starter and Club electrician. The triggering mechanism was then tested and the boxes opened. All runners were considered fit to race and were reloaded into the boxes. The lure was set in motion however upon reaching the starting point it did not trigger the boxes to open and another false start occurred. The runners were again removed in the presence of the Veterinary Surgeon at which time the Stipendiary Steward instructed the Starter to manually restart the race. The Veterinary Surgeon had again deemed all runners to be fit to compete however the trainer of Thrilling Faith (K.Walsh) stated that she wanted to withdraw her greyhound from the race and left the starting area. The TAB was advised of the late scratching. Thrilling Faith was consequently ordered to undergo a further Veterinary examination which detected no abnormalities. Dolly Poacher (S.M.Wright). Seasonal. No Vet certificate supplied. Rule 258.3. 30 days up to and including 23.03.05. Thrilling Faith (K.Walsh). Late scratching / Withdrawn by trainer at start of race. Rule 257.1. 30 days stand down up to and including 26.03.05.
Race 7	ROYAL WOLF CONTAINERS DASH - C1/2 - 318	This race started 7 minutes late due to the false starts in the previous race. Sonny Boy Jones ran outwards on the first turn checking Miss Tracey Lee and carting Don Paulie very wide which cost all three runners the chance of finishing in a dividend bearing place.
Race 8	GLENN McGRATH DASH - C3 - 318	This race started 2 minutes late due to previous delays. Willandra Bale was slow to begin. Rusty Rover, Dudley Dersley and Osbourne jostled after 50mtrs. Gold Strike moved towards the rail on the first turn which checked Poetical with subsequent checks to Rusty Rover and Dudley Dersley. Osbourne ran outwards on the first turn severely checking Willandra Bale. Rusty Rover ran outwards on the bend causing severe checks to Poetical and Dudley Dersley. Gold Strike and Poetical collided on the bend with both being severely checked.
Race 9	EGH INTERNET GREYHOUNDS STAKES - C1/2 - 527	Time Solves missed the jump by 3 lengths. General tightening on the first turn resulted in checks to all runners except Time Solves and Dark Sensation. Comical Ali and Trendy Time came together on the home turn.
Race 10	HAMISH MARSHALL STAKES - C3/4 - 527	Mr Blackout and Trendy Rhode were slow to begin and recovered well to finish 1st and 3rd respectively. Charmaine Bale attempted to move towards the rail on the first turn, collided with Big Teddy Boy and almost fell. Big Teddy Boy was checked and ran outwards to a wider position on the track. Follow Me Frosty took evasive action in this incident by running very wide and carting Flash Shooter racing on its outside, even wider with both runners being checked. Whilst endeavouring to regain their balance and momentum Follow Me Frosty and Flash Shooter came together for several strides. On the first bend Big Teddy Boy appeared to lose momentum when clear of other runners and became involved in an incident with Follow Me Frosty and Flash Shooter which were making ground on its outside. All three runners were checked in this incident which was the subject of a Judicial Committee hearing after the race. Big Teddy Boy was ordered to undergo a post race Veterinary examination which detected no abnormalities. Charmaine Bale (G.N.Pomeroy). Split web rear toes.
