Stipendiary Stewards Report

Auckland Greyhound Racing Club

Manukau Stadium ON TUESDAY 07 Dec 2004

Weather:
Track: Good Firm
Scales: Correct at all weights
Health and Safety comment: Refer to the 'Catching' of greyhounds under 'Judicial'.

Judicial report: Weather: Fine Please Note : The information stated under the heading 'Judicial' does not necessarily imply that all matters were handled as a formal Judicial Proceeding unless specifically stated.
Race 3. Justa Half Pint (K.Braithwaite) was observed and reported as being 'Hard to Box'.
The matter was discussed with the trainer and the greyhound will be monitored at it's next race start prior to any decision being made as to whether a 'Hard to Box' categorisation is appropriate.
Race 8. The trainer of Geechie Lobo, K.E.Lomas and handler S.Mann were questioned regarding the arrangement where Mr Mann extracts this greyhound off the lure at the conclusion of the race and then immediately relinquishes control back to Mr Lomas. As a result of discussion with both men their explanation was accepted, however Mr Lomas was advised that should he require dispensation for Mr Mann or any other licensed person to perform this task in the future an application to the Stipendiary Steward or Judicial Steward will be required in advance.
Race 9 . Trainer P.Henley was warned for not providing a catcher for Mister Jaybee at the conclusion of this race.
Race 13. At the request of trainer N.P.Green the boxing manners of Just Too Hot were monitored. The greyhound was slow to begin. No further action has been taken at this time.
Race 15. Idol Appeal (D.van Meeuwen) underwent a reassessment of the 'Hard to Box' (Box First) categorisation which has applied to this greyhound for a considerable length of time. The reassessment was conducted under Rule 302.3 and was completed to the satisfaction of the Starter, Judicial Steward and Stipendiary Steward. One further reassessment is required at the greyhound's next race start.
Trainers', handlers' and catchers' are requested not to run towards the lure at the conclusion of races, in order to extract your greyhound, until such time as ALL runners in the race have actually reached the lure. This is a serious Health and Safety issue for the Clubs'
and on two occasions at today's meeting, serious injury could have been sustained by the handlers involved.
A charge under Rule 135.10 laid by the Stipendiary Steward on the 19.11.04 against joint - trainers' B & L Craik was reconvened at a hearing before the AGRC Judicial Committee (N.McGough). Following the presentation of evidence by both parties, the Judicial Committee upheld the charge but chose not to impose a penalty against the respondents on the condition that the Registration Certificate / Race Record Card for the greyhound 'Nikkei' be presented to the Stipendiary Steward for the suspension endorsement, prior to Race 3 at today's racemeeting.
A Satisfactory Trial had also been ordered under Rule 179.1 on 02.11.04 in addition to the charge. The Race Record Card endorsements have now been completed and the hearing concluded.
