Stipendiary Stewards Report

Waikato Greyhound Racing Club

Cambridge Raceway ON THURSDAY 28 Oct 2004

Weather:
Track: Good Firm
Scales: Correct at all weights
Health and Safety comment: Greyhounds and horses being out on their respective race tracks at dual code meetings at the same time, must be avoided without exception, as the repercussions of a greyhound getting loose from it's handler in that situation are immense.

Judicial report: Weather: Fine The designated Lure Driver was late arriving on- course therefore there was a lengthy delay to the start of the pre race meeting trialling of reserve greyhounds until a replacement driver was located.
Race 2. Trainer A.Cleaver was advised of the expectations in relation to pre race parades.
Race 5. Trainer M.Earley was granted exemption to not have a catcher for Sharpshooter
due to unforeseen circumstances and advised that this would not be granted in the future.
Race 9. Prior to the commencement of the race meeting the trainer of Idol Appeal (D.Van Meeuwen) was advised by the Stipendiary Steward that this greyhound will be required to undergo reassessment of the current 'Box First' categorization that it has. This will commence at the greyhounds next race start and will be conducted in consultation with the officiating Stipendiary Steward, Judicial Steward, Starter and Trainer.
During the race meeting the Waikato GRC Secretary was advised of serious concerns relating to the lack of communication to the Stipendiary Steward and Raceday Officials regarding the two novelty harness racing events, conducted by the Morrinsville Trotting Club, prior to greyhound races 7 and 8, which caused delays to the greyhound racing programme and prevented the greyhounds in those races being paraded and viewed by on and off course patrons in the usual manner. Of particular concern was the potentially dangerous situation prior to race 8, whereby the greyhounds were making their way to the 375mtr start at the same time as the horses came out to take part in an amateur drivers harness event, and the minimal exposure of the runners in this greyhound race which was the feature event ($5,500) on the Waikato GRC programme.
