Judicial report: Weather: Fine Race 1. Irinka Sandy (J & D Fahey) which collapsed and died shortly after winning the race is to undergo further and appropriate Veterinary examination / analysis under Rule 138 in order to try and ascertain the cause of death. This procedure is to be conducted by D. Matheson BVSc , the officiating Veterinary Surgeon for the Christchurch GRC. who will then submit his report to the NZGRA and trainer.
A qualifying trial was conducted prior to the first race and due to serious interference during the event no runner was proven to be acceptable.

Race 1 | PEDIGREE ADVANCE STAKES - C1 - 520 | Picnic Day missed the start by 3 lengths, made up some ground but was always at the rear. Homebush Red was tightened between Stylish Lover and Blue Moon Magic entering the first turn and never recovered after finishing 6th. The winner of the race Irinka Sandy collapsed and died shortly after the finish and is to undergo further Veterinary procedures in an endeavour to ascertain the cause of death. Race 2 | SHIRLEY VETERINARY SPRINT - C0 - 295 | Raining Men was slow to begin, moved wide on the bend and held ground to finish 6th. Michelle's Buddy clipped the heels of Proctor , lost balance and moved outwards severely checking Bardo's Angel and Robertalan in the process. |
Race 3 | BARRY GURDLER SAND SUPPLIES - C1 - 295 | Homebush Fin was a late scratching due to injury. El Assassin stumbled out of the boxes and never recovered finishing 6th. Whata Buy was near the rail in midfield early then ran wide on the home turn losing ground to finish last. Homebush Fin (J.T.McInerney). Late scratching. Left fore, fourth toe nail split. Vet certificate supplied. Rule 259. 7 days up to and including 28.10.04. |
Race 4 | PAT CAGNEY LIFE MEMBER STAKES - C0 - 520 | Timely Flirt was scratched due to injury. Given The Blues ran out on the first turn carting Homebush Moody wider. Bevron Road was tightened and checked between Cecilia Pharaoh on the first turn and then ran on slightly for 5th. Timely Flirt (K.P.Lawrence). Left fore laceration to web. Vet certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 30.10.04. |
Race 5 | GARRARDS HORSE & HOUND SPRINT - C0 - 295 | French Sparrow ran wide on the bend forcing Expanded to cover extra ground. |
Race 6 | ROBBIE'S BAR & BISTRO STAKES - C1 - 520 | Wave The Fern was scratched ex Christchurch GRC on 20.10.04. Follow The Trend the favourite was slow out, showed no improvement and was always towards the rear thereafter finishing 7th. A Veterinary examination was ordered which revealed no injury. Following this S.Barber, the trainer's representative on-course, was questioned regarding Follow The Trend's poor performance in comparison to the two most recent race starts which it had won. Mr Barber stated that in his opinion the greyhound races better from a wide box position and needs plenty of racing room in order to race keenly. His explanation was accepted and noted. Clan Ebony, Shady's Mate, Follow The Trend, Lonhro Aston and Ozzy John were all involved in general tightening and jostling after 15mtrs. Lonhro Aston failed to complete the course after being near the rear throughout. A Veterinary examination was ordered and revealed that the greyhound had probably suffered from severe cramping. Race 7 | ALPHA PROCESSING SPRINT - C0 - 295 | Lunar Angel was checked off the heels of Whata Plan on the first turn, then very wide losing ground to finish last. Compact Connie ran out on the bend keeping Lunar Angel out wide. Homebush Margret drifted after the start and made ground for 5th. |
Race 8 | KOLORFUL KANVAS - C0 - 520 | Under Time was slow to begin then wide and ran on strongly in the straight for 4th High Flyin Teddy, Cecilia Colin and My Sinbad jostled for racing room shortly after the start. High Flyin Teddy ran off the rail on the first turn pushing Homebush Hope wider and the former was always wide thereafter losing ground to finish 7th. |
Race 9 | CATCH ME SOON SPRINT - C1 - 295 | Homebush Spot ran very wide on the bend, lost ground and then fought on well for 2nd. Mulberry Flash ran out on the bend and held ground in the straight for 5th. |
Race 10 | NUTRI-ZING SPRINT - C1 - 295 | Red King was scratched due to injury. Homebush Lump was tightened between Homebush Sam and Back Here Macka into the first turn and lost 2 lengths then ran on again for 5th. Mulberry Chelle drifted slightly ater the start, switched to the rail and ran on well for 3rd. Red King (M.J.Flipp). Lacerated web right fore. Vet certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 30.10.04. |
Race 11 | DAVID EMERSON CONSULTANCY - C1 - 520 | Whata Shame was scratched due to being in season. Te Pirita Tiger and Trinity Saint were slow to begin, then wide and showed little improvement thereafter. Whata Shame (B.A.Johnston). In Season. No Vet certificate supplied. Race 12 | TRACKSIDE DINNING CUP WEEK PH (03) 338-6145 SPRINT - C1 - 295 | Temnick Star was a late scratching due to injury. Homebush Smithy was tightened between Sammy Gossip and Mulberry Rogue on the first turn and almost fell, severely checking Trinity Trance as a result which ran on again for 5th. Homebush Smithy never recovered finishing last. Temnick Star (J.T.McInerney). Late scratching. Left stifle puncture wound. Vet certificate supplied. Rule 259. 7 days up to and including 28.10.04. |
Race 13 | NZ CUP & GALAXY 5/11 SPRINT - C2 - 295 | There was general tightening involving most runners after the start. Light Frost was tightened between Dreamchaser and Homebush Teddy after 20 mtrs and fell heavily then Homebush Teddy tripped and fell 5 mtrs later. Both runners lost all chance as a result and were ordered to undergo veterinary examinations which revealed no injuries. Petite Jewel was jostled then checked in this incident. |
