Judicial report: Weather: Fine A charge under Rule 322(1)(b) was opened and adjourned against trainer GA Cleeve and dog WAVE THE FERN, who competed in Race 17, the George Calvert Cleaning Stakes.

Race 1 PEDIGREE ADVANCE STAKES - C1 - 520 The favourite ORPHAN ASSASSIN was slow to jump from the outside box, improving quickly into the first bend, tightening MICRON GALE, CLAN IVORY, LIGHT POCKETS and AQUA COSTI on his inner. ORPHAN ASSASSIN assumed control down the back straight to run away and win easily with LIGHT POCKETS finishing strongly for third. The other dogs finished at the rear along with HARVARD BOY who drifted to last soon after the jump. MICRON GALE was checked after the event by the club veterinarian and found to have a right hind torn web, recommending a stand down of 10 days. MICRON GALE (MM Grant) right hind torn web. Race 2 COASTERS TAVERN SPRINT - C1 - 295 FLASH WARRIOR was slow to jump from the inside box, recovering quickly to rail up, running on for fourth. BOUND FOR CHINA, WATTA FLYER and RUN TO PARADISE came together after the jump, settling at the rear never improving. Around the first bend TOP CURRENT checked out of FLASH WARRIOR'S hindquarters running wide into the straight, finishing fifth.
Race 3 ISLINGTON TAVERN STAKES - C0 - 520 CHOSEN FELLA drifted to the rear after the jump finishing on for sixth. Into the back straight BURNHAM POWER and CECILIA COLIN came together losing ground, finishing mid field. PICNIC DAY who settled midfield got a good run along the rail around the first bend to run away and win easily. HIGH FLYIN TEDDY who settled well back ran on for a good second. BEVRON ROAD (J&D Fahey) diarrhoea. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 5 days up to and including 16 October 2004. WHATA PLAN (BA Johnston) was a late scratching at kennelling when found with right shoulder triceps pain. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 21 October 2004.
Race 4 WILSON'S SPORTS BAR & TAB SPRINT - C1 - 295 SEASPRAY FOLLY was slow to jump settling last. Into the first bend JUMP START was checked coming back and taking an improving SEASPRAY FOLLY wide on the track. Soon after this incident CECILIA LUGER moved outwards tightening SAMMY GOSSIP, AQUA FRED and HOMEBUSH LEGEND. CECILIA LUGER and SAMMY GOSSIP ran on for second and fourth with the other four finishing some distance behind.
Race 5 ABRAHAMS SPORTS BAR STAKES - C0 - 520 CECILIA PHARAOH settled last after jumping. Into the first bend UNDER TIME eased when tightened between dogs. Soon after this incident MICHELLE'S BUDDY ran outwards badly checking ICE AND COAL, MULBERRY MAN and CECILIA PHAROAH, these dogs filling the last four places.
Race 6 HORORATA HOTEL SPRINT - C0 - 295 WHATA YA THINK was slow to jump, improving into the first bend and tightening HOT SPOT, TALKING SOFA, PROCTOR and MARILYN'S WALK on his outer, these four dogs losing all chance. WHATA YA THINK ran on for fourth. HOT SPOT was examined following the event by the club veterinarian and found to have a left fore sesamoid fracture with a 28 day standdown recommended. HOT SPOT (JV Busch) left fore sesamoid fracture. Rule 329. 28 days up to and including 8 November 2004.
Race 7 COALGATE TAVERN SPRINT - C1 - 295 Into the first corner JIM, FEARLESS MAGOO and HOMEBUSH FIN tangled losing all chance. They finished at the rear of the field.
Race 8 BOWL AND JACK TAVERN STAKES - C1 - 520 Into the first bend SAMMY HAVOC moved outwards tightening dogs on his outer, AQUA SHEILA striking the hindquarters of KELLBRETT PRINCE and falling. AQUA SHEILA regained her feet and completed the event. She was checked by the club veterinarian who detected no injuries. MCKENZIE LEIGH (MM Grant) stood down at Christchurch GRC on 7 October 2004. Left shoulder triceps tear. Rule 329. 21 days up to and including 27 October 2004. RED HOT MINI (HG Cairns) in season. Rule 258. 30 days up to and including 9 November 2004. Race 9 HALSWELL TAVERN SPRINT - C0 - 295 EXPANDED was very slow to jump settling a clear last. Into the first bend CUST OR BUST moved away from the rail tightening PAULAS AWESOME and IMPASSE on her outer before striking the hindquarters of MOVE ON MISTRESS. An improving EXPANDED collided with PAULAS AWESOME both losing further ground. All five dogs finished a considerable distance behind the placegetters.
Race 10 ANGLER'S ARMS SPRINT - C3 - 295 Around the bend COBBITTY GIRL and ACE BIRD came together for a number of strides before being struck by SHIRAZ ROYALE. These dogs lost all chance filling the last three places. YENDY'S TITLE (GA Cleeve) left hock sprain. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 14 days up to and including 24 October 2004.
Race 11 TEMPS BAR STAKES - C0 - 520 FLYIN BRIAN was very slow to jump. Into the first bend HOMEBUSH McGIVAR was checked finishing at the rear with FLYIN BRIAN. ANDREW FLEX (AC Roberts) fractured hock. Rule 257. 30 days up to and including 9 November 2004.
Race 12 BILLS BAR & BISTRO SPRINT - C1 - 295 MULBERRY BEAN drifted to the rear after the jump. Around the first bend the favourite HOMEBUSH SMITHY, TOP NOTCH CONNIE and BALMAR BLUE ran wide losing all chance filling the last three places. MULBERRY BEAN finished midfield. MY PERK (JV Busch) right wrist sprain. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 20 October 2004.
Race 13 EXCELSIOR HOTEL STAKES - C1 - 520 Into the first bend FIFI THE FLEA tightened GOLDSPOON who struck the rail, drifting out to finish last with FIFI THE FLEA finishing near the rear. GOLDSPOON wasexamined by the club veterinarian after the event detecting no injury.
Race 14 SHIRLEY TAB SPRINT - C1 - 295 WEAR THE FERN was slow and wide, running on strongly in the straight for third. Into the bend GOLDFINGER JEWEL and MULBERRY ROLL came together losing ground finishing amongst the tailenders. SMART HAVOC settled well back finishing last. Around the bend and into the straight RED KING leaned out on ANGEL EYES who lost ground finishing midfield with RED KING finishing on for second.
Race 15 THE MILLER BAR SPRINT - C0 - 295 HEAD PREFECT and CECILIA PAUL drifted to the rear after the jump never improving. Into the first bend BLICKLING HALL, LIGNUM VITAE and CHEWCHEW FUDDLE came together losing ground. BLICKLING HALL ran on of third with the other two midfield.
Race 16 THE ROCK SPRINT - C1 - 295 Into the first corner HOMEBUSH LUMP was squeezed between dogs coming back on BUCKS FOLDING, HONKY TONK LORD and HOMEBUSH JESS who were badly checked. They filled the last four places. CURRENT POWER (MJ Flipp) infected and lacerated tail. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 7 days up to and including 18 October 2004.
Race 17 GEORGE CALVERT CLEANING STAKES - C1 - 520 Across the top WAVE THE FERN ran out coming in contact with the favourite MULBERRY EBO, both losing ground and finishing midfield. A charge under Rule 322(1)(b) was preferred against WAVE THE FERN and trainer GA Cleeve. As CLEEVE left the course immediately after the race, the matter was adjourned. FORCEFUL HABIT (MM Grant) right hind toe sprain. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 20 October 2004.
Race 18 NUTRI-ZING STAKES - C2 - 520 CALL ME NELSON was slow to jump settling well back. ROSZEL BALE drifted out to the rear after the jump finishing well bac as did CALL ME NELSON. MRS DOO ran wide around the first bend losing ground finishing last.
Race 19 LAMB & HAYWARD SPRINT - C2 - 295 EL ASSASSIN was slow to jump from the outside box settling last and never improving. DREAMCHASER (D Kingston) pad puncture wound. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 20 October 2004.
Race 20 CANTERBURY DRAUGHT SIX PACK - C2 - 520 Into the first bend EBONY DELUXE and INTO THE BLUE came together, with EBONY DELUXE hitting the rail. These dogs never recovered finishing at the rear. EBONY DELUXE was checked by the club veterinarian who detected nothing amiss. PAUA AN ATOM (MM Grant) diarrhoea. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied.
