Health and Safety comment:

Judicial report: Weather: Fine Race 5. A Judicial inquiry was opened into the performance of Queen Of Flight which ran out on the bend, forcing and badgering Sister Stamp and Play Me to the outside of the track. It did appear as if Queen Of Flight was failing to chase. This greyhound then refocused and ran on again to finish a distant 3rd. The greyhound was returned to the kennels and a Veterinary examination was ordered which was completed approximately an hour after the race. The result of the examination revealed multiple soreness and the officiating Veterinary Surgeon (Mr J.Mason) was asked whether in his opinion this would be sufficient to warrant the greyhound performing in the manner it did. His answer was affirmative and a veterinary certificate with a stand down penalty of 5 days issued. When questioned regarding the length of the stand down Mr Mason stated that it was his belief that with intense treatment by the trainer the soreness could be successfully dispelled within the stand down time frame.
The trainer advised the Stipendiary Steward that the greyhound would undergo the recommended treatment for longer than 5 days.
Given the information provided by Mr Mason, the decision was made not to pursue any further action against Queen Of Flight on this occasion.
Race 7. A Judicial inquiry was opened into an incorrect earbrand being shown on the Registration Certificate of Celestial ( O.K.Marron) which was noticed by the Veterinary Surgeon and Identification Steward during the kennelling processes.
The earbrand on one this greyhound's ears was different to what was recorded on the Registration Certificate and when questioned, Mr Marron advised that he had understood from the previous trainer (A. Hall) that he had advised the NZGRA of the error some time ago but the certificate had not yet been amended.
Two thorough identification checks were therefore undertaken on the greyhound at todays meeting, based on the markings provided on the Registration Certificate, and no discrepancies were found. The greyhound was consequently given permission to start. The matter has now been referred to the NZGRA Racing Manager for further investigation
Race 14. The trainer of Wolf Girl Jess (G.A.Lawrence) was reminded of the rule requiring that catchers are required for all race distances at the Waikato GRC meetings and in future fines will be imposed on any trainer who does not adhere to this. Exemptions will only be considered by the Stipendiary Steward following formal application by the trainer.
Race 2. Puni Fire (B.L.Hood). Race record card is to be endorsed with the above scratching / stand down penalty by the Stipendiary Steward at the next Central Districts race meeting.
DRESS STANDARD.
Trainers and Handlers are reminded of NZGRA Rule 294 which clearly states the expectation in relation to acceptable forms of attire whilst handling greyhounds at race meetings.
RACE PARADE.
Handlers are requested to ensure that they follow the instructions of the Parade Stewards
at all times. Parade standards are to be enforced rigidly so as to ensure that the best possible co-ordinated and professional image is projected at all times.
