Judicial report: Weather: Fine Trainer AC Roberts pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 135.1 pertaining to the late scratching of ROSZEL BALE from Race 1, The Bryce Francis Graphics Stakes. In explanation he confirmed that he had brought the incorrect bitch to the race meeting with ROSZEL BALE still in his kennels at Rakaia. He was fined $100.00 by the Judicial Steward.
Trainer MD McDonnell was late to kennel GINGER TYLER for Race 8. He was fined $25.00 for a breach of Rule 262.2 and Rule 135.1.

Race 1	BRYCE FRANCIS GRAPHICS STAKES - C1 - 520	The favourite THRILLING PAUL was very slow to jump losing 3 to 4 lengths. He improved down the back straight before being momentarily held up by a retreating TURBO ROYALE and after working into the clear, finished strongly in the straight for a close up third. MINNIE LASS checked out off the hindquarters of ASTRA NOMACOOL into the first bend, running wide, before finishing on for a distant fourth. FRIENDLY PRINCE (GA Caffell) deceased. ROSZEL BALE (AC Roberts) was a late scratching when not presented to race. Trainer AC Robert fined $100.00 for a breach of Rule 135.1. His explanation into the non appearance of the bitch was accepted by the Judicial Steward with no penalty imposed in respect of ROSZEL BALE under Rule 257.
Race 2	HOUSE OF TRAVEL '520' - C2 - 520	TIGER EYES drifted to the rear before the first corner never improving in the running finishing amongst the tail enders. Around the first bend ASTRO NERONE, JEMALONG BRUISER and SON OF SARABI jostled for a number of strides, all three losing momentum. ASTRO NERONE finished strongly in the home straight for a close second, with the other two finishing at the rear.
Race 3	DISPLAY ASSOCIATES SPRINT - C2 - 305	PITSTOCK JAZZ lost his hind footing on jumping from the boxes, settling last. He never recovered finishing near the rear. Into the first bend GLORIA'S CHARM was struck from behind by SEXY BABE who came back on a trailing RALPH, both dogs losing ground. Into the home straight an improving SEXY BABE collided with GLORIA'S CHARM with both dogs losing all chance.
Race 4	HEADS ROAD VETERINARY SERVICES '520' - C1f - 520	An even dispatch with GO FAITH GO leading into the first corner from JUBILANT MISS. Into the first bend DISCIPLINATIAN moved outwards checking DUSTY NERO and the favourite KIWI MANA who settled a distant last as a result. At the end of the back straight PIC A PAC railed up to take the lead to hold on and win well. KIWI MANA finished strongly over the concluding stages for fourth. BRONNIE BOLTA (LD Martin)No veterinary certificate received. Enquiry opened and adjourned under Rule 256.
Race 5	ANDERSON'S FOR MEN STAKES - C2/3 - 520	The favourite CHOPPER'S HAND, second favourite OLD DARK and UNIQUE SPECIES were slow to jump from the boxes. UNIQUE SPECIES moved quickly down to the rail. Into the first bend IRINKA BETTY ran outwards, forcing GOZO LINA and TOKEN WARRIOR wide on the track. CHOPPER'S HAND railed around the first bend and down the back straight, making good ground before striking the hindquarters of the leader FIELD'S O'ATHERNY when the gap along the rail closed. CHOPPER'S HAND faltered, running to the outside of the track finishing the event some 30m behind the field. OLD DARK improved gradually down the back before finishing strongly along the rail in the home straight to win impressively. CHOPPER'S HAND was examined following the event by the Club Veterinarian, detecting nothing amiss.
Race 6	ELITE CATERING '305' - C2 - 305	KOJAZZ drove straight to the lead from the inside box, before running wide into the home straight enabling the favourite THRILLING CODY to rail up and win well. Across the top and into the home straight BLUE COUNTY and HOT DISCOVERY jostled for a number of strides on two occasions when racing at the rear of the field, never improving, filling the last two places.
Race 7	WANGANUI CUP - C5 - 520	Soon after the jump TOKEN CHARM and OZZIE RHODE were tightened between dogs, drifting to the rear. Into the first corner they came together again. losing further ground. At the end of the back straight BURN THE PEG was tightened by an improving SLENDER MAREE, drifting out and coming back on OZZIE RHODE. These dogs, along with TOKEN CHARM, filled the last three places. HOT TREASURE (BRD Cole) torn toe nail. Rule 257. 30 days up to and including 16 September 2004.
Race 8	DOUBLE 'S' MOTORDROME DASH - C4/5 - 305	GINGER TYLER was hit by ACTION TIME on his outer when jumping from the boxes, settling last never improving during the running. Soon after the jump ENLIGHTENING and IOMAN came together for a number of strides, again coming together into the first corner losing momentum and finishing near the rear of the field. ETTINGER BALE (AC Roberts) wrist pain. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 28 August 2004. KARMA'S KEY (GA Cleeve) stood down at Christchurch GRC meeting on 18 August 2004 under Rule 329. 10 days up to and including 27 August 2004.
Race 9	EXCEED FEATURE DISTANCE - C2d - 755	The favourite SKIPPER RIP was slow to jump from the boxes, settling last. LADY TIANNE drifted towards the rear, never improving during the running. SKIPPER RIP ran on wide during the event, finishing strongly for a distant third.
Race 10	WANGANUI SECURITY SERVICES '305' - C3 - 305	PHAEDRA was tightened soon after jumping from the boxes, settling near the rear. Into the first corner SEASPRAY PADERO and ENROLLMENT came together, coming back on PHAEDRA. These dogs never recovered filling the last three places.
