Judicial report: Weather: Overcast Race 2 INDIA (SM Wright) was a last scratching due to not being presented to race and without any prior notification to the Secretary of the Waikato GRC.
An inquiry was opened with the Judicial Steward A Booth under Rule 257.1 and 135.1 and adjourned to a later date in order to investigate the matter further.

Race 1 ROTOVEGAS SOCIAL TEAM HURDLES - C1/2h - 457 SHAKA MALAWI was slow to leave the boxes. GONE TROPPO, the favourite was severely checked by CHIPPEWA BRAVE after 200m, losing several lengths. CHIPPEWA BRAVE stumbled after jumping the second to last hurdle. DOTTIE DESTROYER fell as the last hurdle when leading. Both CHIPPEWA BRAVE and DOTTIE DESTROYER were checked by the Club Veterinarian as a result of falling. No injury was detected with CHIPPEWA BRAVE however DOTTIE DESTROYER suffered abraisons and a fractured outside back toe and was stood down for 14 days. ARANUI SUNRISE was distracted by the fallen DOTTIE DESTROYER in the home straight and lost momentum. DESTROYER DOTTIE (G & S Hayden-Holmes) Rule 329. Has a fractured outside back toe and abrasions. Stood down for 14 days up to and including 19 August 2004.
Race 2 WAIKATO MILKING SYSTEMS STAKES - C1 - 375 INDIA was a late scratching due to non arrival on course. GWINGANA TOKEN ran wide pushing MISS KIRSTY three wide on the first bend with both runners finishing at the rear of the field. INDIA (SM Wright) Rule 257.1 and 135.1 was a late scratching due to not being presented for racing and stood down for 30 days up to and including 4 September 2004.
Race 3 HAUTAPU VET CLINIC SPRINT - C1/2 - 457 ROSEL BALE was a late scratching due to kennel cough. WESTAR STORM went to a clear lead from the start and won well. ROSZEL BALE (AC Roberts) Rule 259. Late scratching due to kennel cough and stood down for 5 days up to and including 10 August 2004.
Race 4 WAIKATO MILKING SYSTEMS SOCIAL CLUB SPRINT - C2 - 375 WILLANDRA BALE was a late scratching due to kennel cough. MARRICK MAID began well, had a good run throughout and kept up a strong run to win decisively. The favourite MISS TRACEY LEE drifted out at the start and never recovered finishing last. A veterinary inspection was undertaken due to the poor performance. No injury or distress were detected. WILLANDRA BALE (AC Roberts) Rule 259. Late scratching due to kennel cough and stood down for 5 days up to and including 10 August 2004.
Race 5 T McDONALD MEMORIAL CUP - C2df - 747 CALM ABIDING was scratched due to pain in the region of the back muscles. SUPER TOD was scratched due to kennel cough. FAITHFULL BLUE was a clear leader but compounded in the last 50m to finish third. SLY PARK was hampered by SHIRAZ ROYALE with approximately 200m to run and recovered to run on again. CALM ABIDING (P & L Henley. Rule 259. Scratched due to back muscle pain and stood down for 10 days up to and including 12 August 2004. SUPER TOD (P & L Henley) Rule 259. Scratched due to kennel cough and stood down for 10 days up to and including 13 August 2004.
Race 6 ROTOVEGAS SOCIAL TEAM STAKES - C4/5 - 457 OZZIE RHODE was slow to begin and ran on strongly to finish second. The favourite CATCH ME SOON went to an early lead then drifted slightly, eased off the rail on the home turn and was too strong in the straight winning comfortably. BIBIANNA BALE began well then tightened by STOCK BROKER and ORANA CITY losing six lengths and never recovered.
Race 7 W.M.S DIRTY DENNIS DASH - C3/4 - 375 HOSTILE GIRLIE was slow to begin then slipped after 100m, never recovering. RAHENY REASON the favourite was slow early, improved to midfield and then ran on strongly to finish third. MUSICAL DRAMA raced very wide at the rear for the first 150m, never improved in position, finishing last.
Race 8 ROTOVEGAS SOCIAL TEAM CAMBRIDGE FUTURITY - R/Af - 457 THRILLING SAM the favourite had a clear rail run throughout and was too strong in the straight. IDOL APPEAL began well but compounded in the straight. ROMBERG REASON was midfield on the rail early and ran on strongly to finish second. THRILLING ZACK was checked by PAUA MISSILE in the bend with LADY LEAH bein forced wide. ROMBERG REASON caused a severe check to THRILLING HEIDI and LADY LEAH when coming off the rail after 50m.
Race 9 BERRY DRILLING CO LTD STAKES - C3 - 457 TOP ALLEGRO was very wide throughout and ran on. HOSTILE REIGN checked KEENJACKAROO on the first turn when trying to run wide. KEENJACKAROO ran on again. CHOPPERS HAND the favourite was slow to begin then improved along the rail to finish third. WORLD PRIORITY lost ground after 100m, checking TRENDY RHODE which was also forced wide on the home turn by HOSTILE REIGN which was making a wide run.
Race 10 W.M.S ULTIMATE EZY PULLDOWN STAKES - C5 - 457 SPEED TWIN began well and went to a clear lead but couldn't hold off the determined finish of RASMAH REASON, which was trailing until the final 50m. WINSOME GUY was slow to begin and stayed at the rear throughout. OZZIE SHIRAZ was denied any racing room early.
