Judicial report: Weather: Overcast and cold The inquiry under Rule 377.2 in respect of owner/trainer JH Cleary and KIWI NIKO was reconvened. It was established that Cleary had advised the Association office of him taking over the ownership and training of the dog the day following purchase, no further action being required.
Trainer RH Adcock was charged with a breach of Rule 135.1 in that he wore grey trousers instead of the regulation black trousers when handling SPOTTED HAND in Race 9. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $50.00 by the Judicial Steward.

Race 1 NEW SEASON SPRINT - C2 - 295 JEMALONG EASTERN jumped on terms with the field before drifting to last. CECELIA LUGER and WILLANDRA BALE dwelt slightly at the jump and when improved along the inner into the first bend were checked as were MARIA HANOVER and SYDNEY'S LEGEND. SYDNEY'S LEGEND ran on well for third with the other dogs filling the last three places. JEMALONG EASTERN was able to run wide of the first bend skirmish to finish mid field.
Race 2 PEDIGREE ADVANCE STAKES - C1/2 - 520 CHALLENGER BALE drifted to last soon after the jump before moving down to the rail improving down the back straight to settle behind the leaders, before railing up on the point of the home straight to run away and win well. BANKSIDE BRONCO (LJ Waretini) bruising left hind gracilus. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 11 August 2004. FLY BYE ANGEL(jv Busch) withdrawn by NZGRA. No penalty.
Race 3 GEORGE CALVERT CLEANING SPRINT - C2/3 - 295 After an even dispatch RINALDI ASTON, BOY RACER and ULTRAVOX were tightened in the approach to the first bend losing ground. Into the home straight BOY RACER and POTENTIAL ROGUE came together both dogs losing momentum. JETSET TOKEN drifted to last by the first bend never improving during the running finishing last. ULTRAVOX and BOY RACER ran on to finish mid field.
Race 4 LAMB AND HAYWARD STAKES - C3 - 520 TO LIVE BY eased as a result of general tightening in the approach to the first corner before striking the hindquarters of MUSCOVY checking outwards and running wide around the bend. KERCHAK ran to a clear lead around the first corner and down the back straight before being run down just short of the finish. The favourite CHEAP WINE dwelt slightly at the start improving to midfield around the first bend before drifting out to finish last. He was checked by the club veterinarian who detected nothing amiss.
Race 5 SUPERPETS STAKES - C1 - 520 Into the first bend the favourite THRILLING PAUL struck the hindquarters of MISS BLUE VELVET falling as a result. He regained his feet and finished the event. He was subject a veterinary examination, no injuries being detected. CLAN NOVA drove to the lead into the first bend leading all the way to win well.
Race 6 WILSONS SPORTS BAR SPRINT - C2/3 - 295 EFFERVESENCE jumped to a clear lead from the inside box leading throughout to win easily. ZINGER'S NOTCH (MJ Flipp) stood down at Christchurch GRC meeting on 29 July 2004. Rule 329. 14 days up to and including 11 August 2004.
Race 7 DAVID EMERSON CONSULTANCY STAKES - C3/4 - 520 TOKEN CHARM was tardy when jumping from the outside box improving during the running to get up and win well. Into the home straight an improving WHISKEY PETE struck the hindquarters of GOLD TOY who drifted out to finish near the rear with WHISKEY PETE finishing on for second. TREACHEROUS9JT McInerney) was a late scratching at kennelling when found to have a torn left hind toenail. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 13 August 2004.
Race 8 KOLORFUL KANVAS STAKES - C1/2 - 520 The favourite GIVEN TITLE was slow to jump from the inside box as was ENTHRALL from the outside. Into the first bend YORKED AGAIN crossed down to the rail from his outside draw tightening ACE OF SPIES and AQUA TANK with resultant checks to RAZOR ROBERTSON and HOMEBUSH OPAL. These dogs never recovered from the incidents. MEGA BYTES (M&J Jopson) stood down at Christchurch GRC meeting on 29 July 2004. Rule 329. 14 days up to and including 11 August 2004.
Race 9 GARRARDS HORSE N HOUND SPRINT - C5 - 295 HAWK DREAMER jumped to a clear lead from the boxes, leading until the home turn before being run down, finishing fifth. SPOTTED HAND who settled wide and mid field improved wide into the home straight to kick away and win well. KARM'S KEY settled last running wide around the bend, never improving his position. ETTINGER BALE (AC Roberts) was a late scratching at kennelling when found with a temperature and a bite wound. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 7 days up to and including 10 August 2004.
Race 10 BARRON'S SUPPLIES SPRINT - C4 - 295 The favourite HOMEBUSH LEO and HOMEBUSH WILLY were slow to jump. Into the first bend ALLEGRO EXPRESS and EJAY'S LANDING were tightened by dogs on their outer losing ground. HOMEBUSH GEORGE ran wide the bend taking an improving HOMEBUSH WILLY with him. These four dogs never recovered filling the last four places.
