Judicial report: Weather: Fine and cool. An inquiry under Rule 256 was opened and adjourned in respect of the scratching of BLACK TIBET from Race 3, the Dunedin Dash.

Race 1 HAMILTON HURDLES - C1/2h - 457 After an even dispatch KIWI BLUE drifted to last before the first jump. In the approach to the second jump FUNNY FEELING drifted out to the rear, hitting the last fence while running a distant last. She was checked after the event by the Club Veterinarian who detected no injuries.
Race 2 MANAWATU STAKES - C2/3 - 457 Into the first bend KEENJACKAROO ran outwards, colliding with WORLD PRIORITY both dogs running outwards and forcing the favourite RIALTO REASON wide on the track. They never recovered filling the last three places.
Race 3 DUNEDIN DASH - C1 - 375 The favourite MISS TRACEY LEE settled mid field after the jump, improving along the rail across the top to run away and win well. TARTARE SAUCE was tightened between MISS TRACEY LEE and EMOYENI soon after jumping from the boxes, settling well back and running on for fourth with EMOYENI finishing last. BLACK TIBET (K Walsh) Enquiry open and adjourned under Rule 256.
Race 4 MANUKAU STAKES - C1 - 457 The short priced favourite FOUR SQUARE stood in the boxes, missing the jump by approximately six lengths, catching the body of the field turning into the home straight. He finished last as the effort told over the concluding stages of the race. Into the first bend REAL LIFE and SALLY'S DELIGHT came together, with REAL LIFE sustaining a check drifting out to finish amongst the tailenders. SALLY'S DELIGHT ran on well to finish third. GRAPHICS (SL Ross) was a late scratching prior to kennelling. Vomitting and temperature. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 5 days up to and including 3 August 2004.
Race 5 T McDONALD CUP HEAT - C2dq - 747 Heat 1 After jumping from the boxes SUPER TOD laid in on the eventual winner SHINING COMET, both dogs coming together into the first bend. SUPER TOD drifted out to last never improving during the running. LADY TIANNE who trailed these dogs into the first bend was held up momentarily, losing momentum before finishing fairly in the home straight for fourth. GOLD JED (D Van Meeuwen) torn back muscles. Rule 257. 30 days up to and including 27 August 2004. OUR MADGE (NP Green) stood down at Auckland GRC on 28 July 2004. Rule 259. 21 days up to and including 16 August 2004. HOSTILE GESTURE (GA Lawrence) torn right hip support. Rule 257. 30 days up to and including 26 August 2004.
Race 6 SOUTHLAND SPRINT - C2/3 - 375 This event started at 7:01 pm due to a delay in the preceding race at NZ Metro. BASIL FAULTY the second favourite drifted to last after the jump and when endeavouring to improve into the first corner, came in contact with BIG TEDDY BOY. These dogs never recovered, finishing at the rear of the field. Across the top HOSTILE GIRLIE improved around the field being forced wide into the home straight losing ground and drifting out to finish last.
Race 7 WANGANUI STAKES - C5 - 457 Into the first bend DR OSCAR was tightened by dogs on his outer settling last, before finishing strongly along the rail in the home straight for a close fourth. At the lure the winner OZZIE SHIRAZ was pushed under the rail but was quickly restrained by trainer W. Steele. He was checked by the club veterinarian who detected no injuries.
Race 8 CAMBRIDGE FUTURITY - HEAT 1 - R/Aq - 457 Heat 1 Soon after the jump HOSTILE REIGN and ASTRO DOLL came together for a number of strides, both dogs losing ground and settling near the rear. They never improved during the running.
Race 9 CAMBRIDGE FUTURITY - HEAT 2 - R/Aq - 457 Heat 1 KNOCKABOUT FRED was slow to jump settling last. Into the first corner THRILLING HEIDI struck the hindquarters of RICH FIRE who fell with checks to a trailing HOSTILE ARCH and KNOCKABOUT FRED. HOSTILE ARCH lost all chance finishing some distance behind the body of the field. RICH FIRE regained his feet and completed the event a long last. Both dogs were checked by the club veterinarian who found nothing amiss with THRILLING HEIDI, however found HOSTILE ARCH to have right metacarpal soreness with an eight day stand down recommended. HOSTILE ARCH (GA Lawrence) Rule 329. 8 days up to and including 6 August 2004.
Race 10 WAIRARAPA STAKES - C3/4 - 457 The favourite MUSICAL DRAMA exploded from the boxes to a clear lead running away to win easily. WOLF GIRL JESS ran outwards after the jump tightening DR BERTRAM and WINSOME MATE on her outer. She and WINSOME MATE finished at the rear of the field with DR BERTRAM finishing strongly for fourth. PARRA POWER (GC Farrell) gastro-enteritis. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 5 August 2004.
