Race 1 TXT4TIPS (M9 R? 8477) - C0 - 295 The start of this event was 5 minutes late due to a lure breakdown. TINKAMORE, KEEN ACE and AGGIE'S STASH jostled together soon after the start and lost ground. KURI WERA was badly checked on the first turn when tightened between KARAOKE PHIL and JUST LIKE THAT and he went back to last. JUST LIKE THAT and KARAOKE PHIL collided on the home turn but recovered quickly to go on and finish 1st and 2nd.
Race 2 FOTODOG FOTOS - WGTN - C0 - 295 NAKI EXPRESS was scratched without penalty on this occasion due to gaining access to contaminated meat. The trainer was advised that the same lenient attitude would probably not be taken in the future. TESHAMORE was scratched due to a stopper pad injury. NAKI EXPRESS. Trainer P.Hanover. Rule 257 A valid reason and no penalty. TESHAMORE. Trainer I.Moore. Rule 259. Has a stopper pad injury and presented and stood down for 5 days to and including 26.07.04. TESHAMORE. Rule 259. 5 days to and including 26.07.04.
Race 3 UPPER HUTT COSSIE CLUB - C0 - 525 WHEEL CHAIR JIM was a late scratching when found to be suffering from shoulder pain on examination. REDWOOD NEV was slow away and then lost further ground when checking off the heels of another runner on the first corner. O.Marron was fined $ 20-00 under Rule 135 (1) as there was no catcher for REDWOOD NEV. WHEELCHAIR JIM. Trainer A.Elers. Rule 259. Late scratching when found to have shoulder pain. Stood down for 5 days to and including 27.07.04. WHEELCHAIR JIM. Rule 259 5 days to and including 27.07.04.
Race 4 SPICERS PAPER DASH - C1 - 295 FORTOLD and BOLD GYPSY were slow to begin and settled at the rear. CHEROKEE SQUAW was checked on the bend when racing inside ARANUI SUNRISE. She never recovered and finished well back.
Race 5 ANGLO UPHOLSTERERS - C1 - 295 All clear.
Race 6 BRYCE FRANCIS GRAPHICS - C1 - 525 MISS CHANTELLE was handy into the first corner but was then tightened between JUBILANT MISS and FUNNY FEELING and went quickly back to last and stayed there.
Race 7 DOCUMENT SOLUTIONS LTD - C1 - 295 BUSTER O'RILEY who is a kennel mate of NAKI EXPRESS, was also scratched without penalty due to the same problem. The favourite THRILLING BERYL was the slowest away but raced through on the rail to win nicely. DESTROYER DOTTIE checked off the heels of HOMEBUSH SNIPPET on the first corner, ran wide around the bend and finished in last place. BUSTER O'RILEY. Trainer K.Hanover. Rule 257. A valid reason and no penalty.
Race 8 EMPIRE HOTEL - PETONE - C1 - 295 HOMEBUSH HORSE was handy into the first corner but was tightened between runners, went back to last and was never a chance after that. KNOCKABOUT NELLY was also handy early until checked and she finished 2nd to last.
Race 9 ACCSYS FOR QUICKBOOKS - C2 - 295 All clear.
Race 10 WINSTONE WALLBOARDS - C2 - 525 One of the favourites SMART TIP jumped well but then collided with ROCKING QUEEN and dropped out to last. He failed to make up ground and finished at the rear.
Race 11 PETER SINCLAIR PHOTO'S - C2/3 - 525 UPAHUT AXION was checked on three occasions early in the race, went back to last and stayed well back throughout.
