Judicial report: Weather: Sunny with cool wind AC Roberts, trainer of WILLANDRE BALE, an acceptor in Race 9, The Marshland Sprint was fined $100.00 in accordance with Rule 172, with WILLANDRA BALE being a late scratching due to the dog having been stood down at Wanganui on 2 July 2004 under Rule 259 for 14 days up to and including 14 July 2004.
The hearing under Rule 294.2 against trainer JR Goode, adjourned at The Ashburton County GRC meeting on 4 July 2004 was re convened. Goode elected to plead not guilty to the charge and after hearing the evidence the Judicial Steward reserved his decision.

Race 1 HALSWELL SPRINT - C0 - 295 SEASPRAY FOLLY and FLASH WARRIOR were slow to jump from the boxes settling well back. Into the first bend the favourite AQUA FRED was tightened by RUFF STUFF as that dog crossed down to the rail, checking outwards and coming in contact with SEAPRAY FOLLY, FLASH WARRIOR and THRILLING VENUS. SEASPRAY FOLLY ran on well for third with the other two finishing towards the rear. Into the home straight OLD JOE checked out off the hindquarters of SEASPRAY FOLLY drifting out to finish fifth.
Race 2 WIGRAM STAKES - C0 - 520 WALL STREET and TOKEN KIWI were very slow to jump from the outside boxes, TOKEN KIWI running on for fourth with WALL STREET finishing at the rear. Into the first bend the favourite CLAN NOVA and HOMEBUSH TYSON came together, both dogs losing momemtum and finishing beyond midfield.
Race 3 ADDINGTON SPRINT - C0 - 295 LOUIE MCDODD drifted to last soon after the jump finishing amongst the tailenders. JUST A LAD ran outwards after the jump coming in contact with dogs on his outer and losing ground. Into the first corner SMASHNOVA was tightened by the eventual winner SMART HAVOC as that dog crossed down towards the rail, SMASHNOVA drifting out to finish at the rear with JUST A LAD.
Race 4 SPREYDON SPRINT - C0 - 295 GRACE HAVOC, MISTRESS BELLA, TE PUKU THUNDER and MARSHELLA were check as a result of general tightening. GRACE HAVOC ran on well for third with the others finishing at the rear. GOLDFINGER JEWEL (AC Roberts) left hock infection. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 7 days up to and including 19 July 2004.
Race 5 RICCARTON STAKES - C0 - 520 WHATA YA KNOW ran wide around the first corner losing ground finishing at the rear along with CHOSEN FELLA who was tightened when endeavouring to improve at the end of the back straight.
Race 6 NEW BRIGHTON SPRINT - C1 - 295 HOMEBUSH JET dwelt on jumping from Box 1 with HOMEBUSH BOY losing all chance, missing the kick by 3 to 4 lengths. Into the first corner MARISSA BALE and MULBERRY FLASH were tightened by the winner KNOCKABOUT NOVA as she crossed down to the rail. A trailing CHAINSAW CHOPPA ran wide to avoid the incident with MULBERRY FLASH coming back on an improving HOMEBUSH JET and LOCKIE HANDCUFFS. MARISSA BALE and MULBERRY FLASH recovered well running on for second and third with HOMEBUSH JET finishing strongly for fourth. The other dogs finished at the rear.
Race 7 SHIRLEY STAKES - C1 - 520 TE PIRITA TIGER eased as a result of general tightening into the first corner being forced wide around the bend and into the back straight. Entering the back straight BROKEN TITLE moved down towards the rail tightening JUDYANNE BALE and MR CARD on his inner. MR CARD drifted through the field coming back on ANXIOUS MOMENTS, these two finishing at the rear. JUDYANNE BALE and BROKEN TITLE recovered to run second and third albeit 9 lengths behind the winner ESCAPADE who escaped the carnage. JEMALONG BRUISER (GA Cleeve) left fore dew claw torn away. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 5 days up to and including 15 July 2004.
Race 8 BURWOOD STAKES - C1 - 295 OZARK'S GUMBOOT and TOP DRAWER were checked from general tightening when racing beyond mid field into the first bend, finishing amongst the tail enders.
Race 9 MARSHLAND SPRINT - C1 - 295 BRIGHT ECHO and UP A NOTCH drifted out soon after the jump, UP A NOTCH running on for fourth with BRIGHT ECHO finishing a distant last. Into the first corner HOMEBUSH SHADOW moved outwards off the hindquarters of HOMEBUSH LUMP, tightening WEAR THE FERN and BLONDE FEVER on his outer. WEAR THE FERN recovered to run third with BLONDE FEVER finishing near the rear. SCENIC DELIGHT (JV Busch) in season. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 258. 30 days up to and including 9 August 2004. WILLANDRA BALE (AC Roberts) was a late scratching being in elligible to compete due to a stand down under Rule 259 at Wanganui on 2 July 2004 for 14 days up to and including 14 July 2004.
Race 10 REDWOOD STAKES - C1 - 520 Into the first corner AQUA COSTI lost all chance when tightened between the favourite ASTA NOMACOOL and ANGRY'S WISH, drifting out to finish last.
Race 11 BELFAST SPRINT - C1 - 295 Into the first corner SHADY'S MATE struck the hindquarters of the favourite HOMEBUSH BRIAN these dogs coming back on HOMEBUSH BLAZE who fell. LYNNY LOU ran wide as a result taking RED KING with her, both losing all chance. LYNNY LOU, SHADY'S MATE and HOMEBUSH BRIAN finished some distance behind the placegetters with HOMEBUSH BLAZE regaining his feet and completing the event. He was checked by the Club Veterinarian who detected no injuries.
Race 12 HAREWOOD STAKES - C1 - 520 The second favourite GIVEN TITLE was tardy at the start easing to last before railing up around the first corner, settling midfield and finishing well along the rail for second. The favourite AQUA TANK drove to the lead into the first corner leading all the way to win well.
Race 13 PAPANUI SPRINT - C1 - 295 DOLLY POACHER was squeezed between dogs soon after the jump, with SMART SPICE coming back on LAZY HARRY. SMART SPICE ran on well for third, with the other two finishing at the rear.
Race 14 MERIVALE SPRINT - C1 - 295 Into the first corner HOMEBUSH DEISEL, MELTING POT and BELLA VICHY came together losing ground. They came together on a second ocassion losing all chance, filling the last three places.
Race 15 SYDENHAM SPRINT - C2 - 295 Entering the first bend TOP CURRENT, ULTIMATE MOVER, KIWI KID, BACK HERE MACKA and JEMALONG EASTERN lost all chance when tightened by the eventual winner KIWI NIKO as he drove down towards the rail from his outside draw.
Race 16 CHRISTCHURCH SPRINT - C1 - 295 HOMEBUSH FLIPPER stumbled soon after the jump after coming in contact with ENDLESS STORY on his outer. He never recovered finishing last. Into the first bend MULLBERRY ROLL sustained a check in tightened quarters losing ground before running on for fifth,
