Judicial report: Weather: Fine A Judicial hearing was held to determine the elegibility of the greyhound Kiwi Fire (GC Farrell) to compete in race 5, a C1 318 sprint. The Judicial Chairman accepted that notwithstanding that the dog had been correctly nominated for a class 2 race on the 4 June 2004, such nomination had been altered at the NZGRA office and the dog placed into the C1 field. The Chairman ordered that Kiwi Fire be withdrawn from the race.
The trainer PJ Clark presented the greyhound Jodoman with an excess weight variance
(-1.6) in terms of Rule 269. The dog was scratched, and the trainer fined $100.00.
In the matter of a charge brought at the AGRC meeting on the 6 May 2004, against handler Mervyn O'Brien, for failing to furnish information to the Stipendiary Steward in terms of Rule 130 (by providing false information), the Judicial Chairman in a reserved decision, found the charge proven and following submissions as to penalty, imposed a fine of $600.00 against O'Brien.

Race 1 CAROL'S TAB MAIDEN SPRINT - HEAT 1 - C0q - 318 Heat 1 Hostile Arch was swiftly away from the jump, put an early break on the field and ran unchallenged to the line. Astro Edition was buffeted by and squeezed between Dissipate and Sally's Delight after the jump - Astro Edition then flared wide and raced there and towards the rear from that point.
Race 2 CAROL'S TAB MAIDEN SPRINT - HEAT 2 - C0q - 318 Heat 1 Swift Bazooka was slow to start. Paddle Foot and Lady Tibet disputed the early lead until Lady Tibet drifted slightly and was then checked badly and put out of contention when Wild Gunnadoo struck her from behind. As Lady Tibet dropped back she checked other dogs en route. No 8 Bedas Boy (G Calverley). Under stand down from Wanganui GRC.
Race 3 STREETS ICE CREAM MAIDEN FINAL - C0f - 527 Dark Sensation cleared away to win by a margin of 7 lengths. Tartare Sauce ran on strongly for second. No 9 Heza Scallywag (CA Symes). 100K rule.
Race 4 PROBLEM BUSTERS DASH - C1 - 318 Opening Time was well placed with the leaders but was then checked from behind by Just Hasty, that dog having switched out from the track inner.
Race 5 TINT-A-CAR DASH - C1 - 318 Mistress Honcho took an early lead - holding until the field front runners squeezed her for room and she then checked back through the field, impeding the progress of May Well Be when close to the rear. Bold Hove raced wide from the 7 draw and was forced even wider when May Well Be veered out after she herself had been checked. Late scratching No 6 Kiwi Fire (GC Farrell). Withdrawn on direction of Judicial Chairman. .
Race 6 CROWN CONSTRUCTION STAKES - HEAT 1 - C1q - 527 Heat 1 Bazil's Token moved across from box 8 after the jump and then rounding the first bend was in shoulder contact with the leader Bannister Lad. Bazil's Token checked back through the field after the contact. Oxey moved out and came into contact with Campese Bale after the jump, Oxey then scrambling to regain momentum. Golden Lobo was squeezed in the early running and dropped back towards the rear.
Race 7 CROWN CONSTRUCTION STAKES - HEAT 2 - C1q - 527 Heat 1 Ther favourite Den Of Fire started well but was then squeezed tightly up against the rail entering the bend - Den Of Fire dropped to the back on the outer of the track then progressed steadily down back straight to be well placed to challenge entering the home straight but was no chance at hauling in the pacemaker Just The Don. No 6 Splicklez (K Braithwaite). Rule 259 - hind muscle injury. Stand down 10 days to 15.06.04. VC held.
Race 8 ROYAL WOLF CONTAINERS C1 FINAL - C1f - 318 Storm Edition was noticeably slow at the start, conceding ground, but then commenced an impressive run which saw him move from the rear, weave through the field to be placed on the track inner at the bend into the home straight and then race to the front and hold to the line. Late scratching No 6 Jodoman (PJ Clark). Rule 269 - weight variance (-1.6).
Race 9 CROWN CONSTRUCTION STAKES - HEAT 3 - C1q - 527 Heat 1 Never Home dwelt badly at the start and took little part in the race. Miss Kirsty was blocked at the start when Raise Your Glass moved over to the rail, then when moving wide Miss Kirsty checked over the back of Hypo Assassin - she remained wide and at the rear from that point.
Race 10 COCA COLA STAKES - C1/2 - 527 The field tightened and compacted into the first bend, with Miss Teddy Bear and Harvard Boy both being affected.
Race 11 JIMBOS PETFOOD DASH - C2 - 318 Little Toot cleared away early and held strongly. Turf Muncher raced on terms with the field until being shuffled back when Tempest Reign and Longest Drive came into contact in front of him. Tempest Reign and Longest Drive then raced with shoulder to shoulder contact for several paces.
Race 12 FRIDAY FLASH STAKES - C2 - 527 Race clear.
Race 13 RADIO PACIFIC STAKES - C3/4 - 527 The field packed tightly at the first bend with Top Allegro and Hugh Dagg in running contact over several paces. No 5 Radford Reason (B & L Craik). Rule 259. Stand down to follow.
