Judicial report: Weather: Fine The trainer AC Roberts elected to plead guilty to a charge in respect of the greyhound
Challenger Bale, No 9 in race 10, brought in terms of Rule 322.1.(b), for failing to
pursue. In terms of Rule 322.2.(a), the greyhound was suspended until 11.30pm on the
13 June 2004.

Race 1 COFFEE NEWS STAKES - C1/2 - 527 Bingo Appeal took an early lead and held off a late run from Harvard Chief. Our Madge and Wild Whiz were in shoulder to shoulder contact entering the first bend - this contact continued for several strides as Wild Whiz sought to get closer to the rail.
Race 2 JIMBO'S PETFOODS STAKES - C1/2 - 527 Race start delayed until 5.55pm, with all remaining races moved 'a race ahead' in start times, following necessary repairs to control box for power supply to lure. During running, Graeshar's Boy, up handy to lead early, moved over towards rail and checked forward momentum of Homebush Brian - that dog then flaring wide to impact with and impede progress of Coruba Storm.
Race 3 MEADOWSET GRAPHICS DASH - C4 - 318 Mister Trick was blocked in the running when handy early - recovering well to place behind the winner Gilbert Bale. No 8 High Pockets (KE Lomas). Rule 259 - bruised and infected toe. Stand down 5 days to 16.0.04. Dog presented. VC held.
Race 4 TERRY KNIGHT AUCKLAND FUTURITY - R/A - 527 Bankside Brat was pushed forcibly towards the track inner by Tighnabruich as that dog forced her sideways after the jump. Here's Freddie moved out at the first bend, checking and impeding Homebush Bill and Bankside Brat. Homebush Bill stepped wide when evading the inner dog.
Race 5 RADIO PACIFIC DISTANCE - C1/2d - 603 Poco King moved away from the field after an early dispute for the lead with Hypo Assassin, holding until tiring at the bottom of the back straight when the field began to gather him in.The favourite Pilli Appeal justified support with a sustained run to the line. No 6 Challenger Bale (AC Roberts). Gained start in race 10. .
Race 6 TINT-A-CAR DASH - C5 - 318 Aston Marshall was the victim of severe squeezing running into the first bend - his feet becoming entangled with Campbell Bale with a resultant heavy tumble to the track. Aston Marshall regained his feet and finished, albiet a distance back. A post race veterinary examination cleared him of injury. Late scratching: No 8 Never Time (DD Schofield). Rule 259 - bite wound. Stand down 5 days to 17.05.04. Dog presented. VC held.
Race 7 CAROL'S TAB STAKES - C4/5 - 527 Idol Appeal was slow from the jump and when reaching the track inner was pushed forcibly towards the rail by Clock Stopper. Idol Appeal reared up and drifted towards the back, not recovering from that point. Swift Appeal, the strong favourite was challenged in the straight by Speed Twin before Sunset Jest flashed between them and surged decisively to the line to take the decision in the final strides.
Race 8 COMMERCIAL PLUMBING - DUKE OF EDINBURGH SILVER COLLAR - HEAT 1 - C2dq - 779 Heat 1 First Silver Collar heat. Super Tod was noticeably slow, then quickly raced along track inner to be third into the straight for the first round. At the foot of the back straight Super Tod moved forward to gather in the pacemaker, a tiring Egyptian Gold, and then sprinted away to the line, winning with a margin in excess of 8 lengths, and establishing a new track record.
Race 9 COMMERCIAL PLUMBING - DUKE OF EDINBURGH SILVER COLLAR - HEAT 2 - C2dq - 779 Heat 1 Second Silver Collar heat.Skipper Rip justified his support after steadily gathering in Kolliwobble, the pacemaker down the back straight and then surging away for a decisive win - equalling the newly set track record. Shining Comet, with an impresssive late run, placed second at the line.
Race 10 COMMERCIAL PLUMBING - DUKE OF EDINBURGH SILVER COLLAR - HEAT 3 - C2dq - 779 Heat 1 A wall of dogs charged at the first bend before McDeebee took control and left a spreadeagled field behind, with a time that bettered the old track record but not that of the two previous heat winners. Challenger Bale, an entrant into the field as a reserve, virtually trotted from the boxes, took his bearings and then set off after the field in front of him. Such actions were resultant in a suspension being imposed after a charge was brought for 'failing to pursue'. No 5 Super Gold (AC Roberts). Rule 259 - toe injury, operation scheduled for 14.05.04. Stand down 30 days to 10.06.04. No 9 Challenger Bale (AC Roberts). Suspended in terms of Rule 322.1.(b) and 322.2.(a) to 11.30pm on 13.06.04.
Race 11 ROYAL WOLF CONTAINERS DASH - C3 - 318 Waitak Attack flew the boxes to feature early but had to yield the lead and victory to a sustained run from Sue Van Gill. The late favourite, Homebush Leo, reached midfield in the middle of the bend but then drifted back out of contention, finishing as the final dog home.
