Judicial report: Weather: Very cold overcast with light rain. Trainers R&C Free fined $100.00 under Rule 269(3).
Trainer JF Allen and Handler L Darlington, handlers of MORPHEUS and INDICATIVE respectively in Race 8, the Rockcote Stakes, were late to present their dogs for the start of this race. Both were fined $25.00.
An enquiry under Rule 172 into the nomination of WEAR THE FERN (GA Cleeve) in Race 8 was opened and adjouned pending further enquiries being completed.

Race 3 | BILL'S BAR AND BISTRO SPRINT - C0 - 295 | Into the first corner KAY NINE ROCKET was tightened between CASTAWAY HAVOC and RED KING, coming back and checking a trailing EL ASSASSIN, WILMA RUDOLPH, KIM'S FLAME and MATRIAL GIRL, these dogs losing all chance. |
Race 4 | PAL PEDIGREE STAKES - C0 - 520 | Into the first corner CHOSEN FELLA fell after coming in contact with ANDREW'S MATE on his inner. He regained his feet and finished the event some considerable distance behind the field. He was checked by the Club Veterinarian who detected nothing amiss. Soon after this incident MISS KELLY KAY ran wide around the corner, finishing along side ANDREW'S MATE at the rear of the field. |
Race 5 | TEMPS BAR HORNBY SPRINT - C0 - 295 | Into the first corner MISCHIEF TRICK checked off the hindquarters of BALMAR BLUE, both dogs losing momentum finishing mid field. RED'S MISATKE was checked following the event by the Club Veterinarian and found to have a torn left gracilus insertion, recommending a stand down period of 21 days. RED'S MISTAKE (MJ Flipp) left gracilus insertion torn. Rule 329. 21 days up to and including 28 April 2004. |
Race 6 | HALSWELL TAVERN STAKES - C0 - 520 | TOKEN KIWI was very slow to jump from the boxes, settling a distant last, however improved along the rail down the back straight. Approaching the home turn she checked out off the hindquarters of OLE DARK, coming in contact with AQUA SHEILA on her outer. At the end of the back straight OLE DARK was checked when trying to drive up on the inside of CHARMAINE BALE, losing momentum. CHARMAINE BALE ran on to win the event, OLE DARK fourth, with TOKEN KIWI and AQUA SHEILA finishing at the rear of the field. |
Race 7 | THE BOWL AND JACK TAVERN SPRINT - C1 - 295 | BRIGHT ECHO was very slow to jump from the boxes, losing a number of lengths, never improving in the running. UP A NOTCH (MJ Flipp) mild sprain to second toe of left fore. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 7 days up to and including 14 April 2004. |
Race 8 | ROCKCOTE STAKES - C1 - 520 | EBONY DELUXE was slow to jump from the boxes, running on over the middle stages to finish mid field. MR MUG ran to an early lead, compounding over the concluding stages to beat two home. He was checked following the event by the Club Veterinarian who found the dog to have cramped up, recommending no stand down period. PAREORA PEARL settled last into the first corner, drifting out to finish the event some distance behind the remainder of the field. She was checked by the Club Veterinarian who detected a left gracilus insertion to be torn, recommending a stand down period of 21 days. WEAR THE FERN (GA Cleeve) enquiry opened under Rule 172. Race 9 | ISLINGTON TAVERN SPRINT - C1 - 295 | Into the first corner the favourite KIWI NIKO struck the hindquarters of VENETIA SHINES, both dogs losing all chance with resultant checks to FAITHFUL MOTH and MULBERRY ROLL, these dogs filling the last four places. |
Race 10 | COASTERS TAVERN SPRINT - C2 - 295 | CAWBOURNE STEWY drifted to the rear of the field soon after jumping from the boxes, running on over the concluding stages for fifth. Into the first corner KIWI KID and COSTA TIME were checked as a result of general tightening, finishing amongst the tail enders. |
Race 11 | EASTER SPRINT - C3/4 - 295 | DR MURDOCH drifted to last soon after jumping from the boxes, running on for fifth. Into the home straight BOY RACER ran outwards, coming in contact with POTENTIAL ROGUE on his outer. These dogs ran on for second and third respectively.
