Race 1 BRYCE FRANCIS GRAPHICS - C1/2h - 505 CHIPPEWA BRAVE was scratched due to an injury. The scratching was made by fax and not picked up until after scratching time due to a fault with the fax machine. As a result, the first reserve missed out on a start. KOTUKU ARANUI began very awkwardly, lost several lengths and all chance. GOLD ORDER fell at the first hurdle in the back straight and suffered injuries which resulted in a 10 day stand down. OFF THE BENCH and CHEROKEE SQUAW came together and jostled for several strides soon after the start. During the race, OFF THE BENCH received injuries which resulted in a 21 day stand down and CHEROKEE SQUAW received injuries which resulted in a 14 day stand down. CHIPPEWA BRAVE. Trainer B.Melville. Rule 259. Suffering from a toe injury and was presented and stood down for 7 days to 22.03.04. GOLD ORDER. Trainer S.Gardner. Rule 329. Suffered bruising to the chest and foot when falling. Stood down for 10 days to 26.03.04. OFF THE BENCH. Trainer B.Jordan. Rule 329. Suffered an injury to a phalangeal joint on the left foreleg and stood down for 21 days to 06.04 .04. CHEROKEE SQUAW. Trainer B.Melville. Rule 329. Suffered from a flexor tendon injury and stood down for 14 days to 30.03.04.
Race 2 ALBION TAVERN SHANNON - C1 - 505 MR MANGERTON was slow away and then lost further ground when racing very wide on the first bend.
Race 3 AWAPUNI HOTEL - C1 - 297 All clear.
Race 4 MANAWATU SECURITY SERVICES - C1 - 297 LAST TRAM moved in on the first corner and caused checks to SUPREME PARAGON, ROCKING QUEEN, SAI PHAR and HELLUVA BREEZE who all lost any chance of a placing.
Race 5 MANAWATU STAYERS - C2d - 715 UNIQUE SPECIES was a late scratching due to gastroenteritis and KOLLIWOBBLE was scratched due to the same complaint. The first reserve WISE COMMENT was withdrawn and is now deceased. One of the favourites CLYDEBANK was the slowest away and lost several lengths. He gradually made up ground and finished in 3rd place. Race 6 CHARLES BOYCE VETERINARIAN - C1 - 505 SHAVE THE SHEEP was scratched and started in race five. RHEA REASON and SHAWNEE BRAVE collided on the first corner and dropped back to the rear. SHAVE THE SHEEP. Trainer A.Dugancich. Started in Race five.
Race 7 OXFORD HOTEL - C2 - 297 BROWNING BALE was a late scratching when found to have a muscle injury in the left hind leg. BROWNING BALE. Trainer D.Garrett. Rule 259. Late scratched due to suffering from muscle soreness in the left hind leg. Stood down for 14 days to 30.03.04.
Race 8 GOBIS CLUB BONUS SERIES FINAL - RESf - 505 SHE SHEPHERD and CUTIE'S DIAMOND were checked back to the rear in the race to the first corner. Soon after, the favourite SAVIOLA was badly checked and lost all chance when involved in jostling with ASTRO NERONE and PROSPIRENE.
Race 9 ST PATRICKS DAY - C2 - 505 CHARMED LADY was slow away and raced a long distance behind the field. The vets inspection revealed back muscle injuries and a 21 day stand down was ordered. GAZZA'S BEAUTY escaped from the handler after the race when spooked by the horse's assembling for the next race. No charge was preferred against the handler under the circumstances. N.Cobain and E Dugancich were both fined $ 20-00 under Rule 135 (1) for failing to catch dogs as arranged. CHARMED LADY. Trainer J.Elers. Rule 329. Suffered an injury to the lumbar muscles and stood down for 21 days to 06.04.04.
Race 10 HAERE RA - C3/4 - 297 ALLEGRO COMET was a late scratching due to suffering from gastroenteritis. LONGEST DRIVE and SAMMY NAVIGATOR were slow to begin and settled at the rear. LONGEST DRIVE then ran very wide on the bend and covered extra ground. ALLEGRO COMET. Trainer B.Cole. Rule 259.
