Judicial report: Weather: Fine Race Six protest against the winner EGYPTIAN GOLD. under Rules 315 and 316 . It was alleged by Mr P.Geen that the dog was wrongly graded by the N.Z.G.R.A. as a Class 1d when it should be Class 2d. The protest was dismissed.

Race 1 | TXT4TIPS (M9 R? 8477) - C2 - 520 | WISE COMMENT was observed to be struggling to keep up soon after the start and finished a long last. A vets inspection revealed the dog had skinned pads and a 7 day stand down was ordered. The winner OFFERS PLEASE was examined by the vet and found to also have skinned pads but was not required to stand down. WISE COMMENT. Trainer L.Fornasiere. Rule 329. Suffered from skinned pads and stood down for 7 days to 11.03.04. |
Race 2 | IMPROVERS DASH - C1 - 305 | HOMEBUSH LEO, ARANUI SUNRISE and PHAEDRA were checked on the first corner and lost several lengths. HOMEBUSH LEO, who was one of the favourites, was checked again on the bend and finished at the rear. |
Race 3 | EMPIRE HOTEL - PETONE - C2 - 305 | BOLD GYPSY and FAITHFUL BART were the slowest away and were then checked and lost several lengths on the first corner. They filled the last two places at the finish. The 3rd dog RAWHITI LAD ran very wide on the bend and covered considerable extra ground. |
Race 4 | BRYCE FRANCIS GRAPHICS - C3 - 305 | SHIRAZ VINE ran out on the first bend and pushed CRUZMORE, HOMEBUSH BRIAN and ALLEGRO FLIGHT wide on the track. HOMEBUSH BRIAN then moved back down and made firm contact with the rail on two occasions and finished at the rear. A vets examination cleared the dog of any injuries. The back straight video camera malfunctioned and with no backup camera available, the meeting proceeded with no back straight coverage. |
Race 5 | ACCSYS FOR QUICKBOOKS - C3 - 520 | GRAESHAR'S BOY was first away and led until starting the final bend from where he dropped away to finish near the rear. The vets inspection failed to reveal any abnormalities at that time. BLUE HIKER suffered from skinned pads and was stood down for 7 days to 11.03.04. WINSOME ESCAPE and BUSTING OUT also suffered from skinned pads but were not required to stand down. BLUE HIKER . Trainer J & J Tapiki. Rule 329. Race 6 | DISTANCE STAKES - C1d - 645 | Mr P.Green the Trainer of the 3rd dog lodged a protest against the winner EGYPTIAN GOLD and alleged that the dog was wrongly graded by the N.Z.G.R.A and was therefore ineligable to compete in the race. After hearing evidence the protest was dismissed and Mr Green was advised that he was able to persue the matter under Rule 316.5 if not satisfied. |
Race 7 | UPPER HUTT COSSIE CLUB - C4/5 - 520 | HOMEBUSH LAD led until the last bend where he was observed to falter and drop back quickly through the field to finish near the rear. The vets examination failed to reveal any injuries at that time. |
Race 8 | IMPROVERS STAKES - C1 - 520 | SHEEHAN turned in the boxes and finished a long last. A box trial was ordered and this was completed satisfactorily. The favourite UNIQUE SPECIES was checked by GUILT TRIP on the first bend and lost several lengths. He recovered to run on for a close up 4th placing |
Race 9 | ANGLO UPHOLSTERERS STAKES - C4 - 520 | OUR LARRY and WHITE TOKEN ran very wide on the first bend and lost ground. WHITE TOKEN improved to finish mid field but OUR LARRY tailed the field home by several lengths. |
Race 10 | SPICERS PAPER DASH - C5 - 305 | BURST AWAY was checked soon after the start and lost three lengths. |
