Race 1 HITZ 89FM - C0 - 545 Trainer O.Marron was fined $ 30-00 under Rule 135 (1) for late arrival for the start of the race. DUSTY'S DIAMOND turned in the boxes and finished the race a long distance behind the other runners. A box trial was ordered and this was completed satisfactorily.
Race 2 PETER RAVEN - C0 - 290 The favourite GREY HAVOC was one of the slowest away but then made ground well until blocked for a run on the bend. He lost momentum and this ruined any chance of a placing.
Race 3 OLGA WIMUTU - C0 - 545 SCARY FRIS was scratched due to a toe injury. TINKAMORE and HE'S A BLUR were slow to begin and settled at the rear. RHEA REASON moved in on the first corner and checked SANTOFT TIGER who then shifted out and pushed WHEELCHAIR JIM wide on the bend. SCARY FRIS. Trainer T.Dormer. Rule 259. Suffering from a toe injury and stood down for 30 days to 21.03.04.
Race 4 WAIRARAPA TIMES-AGE - C0 - 290 LISSADELL ROVER turned in the boxes and took no effective part in the race, finishing a long last. A box trial was ordered and was completed satisfactorily WHEELCHAIR BRO was galloped on by RUM DANCER on the first turn and went from handy, back to near the rear and never recovered. BOLD RAY checked over the heels of PHAEDRA on the home turn and lost momentum for a couple of strides.
Race 5 HAZEL CROMBIE - C1 - 290 KAITOKE SUE and EMOYENI were checked on the bend and went from handy positions, back to the rear. It could not conclusively be established what occurred as the camera covering that area malfunctioned.
Race 6 RANCHMAN'S PET FOODS - C1 - 545 GAZZA'S BEAUTY and NO MORE BLONDES were the slowest away and then they collided on the first corner. NO MORE BLONDES lost several lengths and all chance while the favourite GAZZA'S BEAUTY partially recovered to finish mid-field. SPADE TIME and ROSINA REASON raced in tight quarters and made contact on the home turn. The winner SPADE TIME was nominated for swabbing but due to a misunderstanding, this was not carried out.
Race 7 RADIO PACIFIC - C1 - 290 MISS CHANTELLE was scratched due to a back injury. SAI PHAR ran inwards after drawing box 6 and caused checks to all those drawn inside with the hot favourite LOVE THE HABIT almost falling. LOVE THE HABIT and NITE HAWK LADY were checked again on the first corner and were no chance of a placing after that. PIXAR STAR and DIDDY CEE YOU collided on the first corner and lost ground. MISS CHANTELLE. Trainer L.Fornasiere. Rule 259. Has a back injury and was stood down for 10 days to 03.03.04.
Race 8 SUPPORTERS CLUB - C1/2h - 545 TAUWHARE VICTOR was scratched due to a leg muscle injury. One of the favourites DESTROYER DOTTIE went up with the box lids and lost several lengths. He stayed well back and finished 2nd to last. TAUWHARE VICTOR. Trainer G.Bywater. Rule 259. Suffering from a back muscle injury and stood down for 30 days to 23.03.04.
Race 9 JOE MARRON - C1 - 545 One of the favourites REBEL IZMIR was very slow away after an awkward beginning and lost several lengths. He then made up ground well but could not catch the placegetters, finishing in 4th place.
Race 10 W.G.R.C COMMITTEE - C1/2 - 545 MISS RUMMO was scratched due to being in season. FRIENDLY PRINCE was scratched due to a toe injury. SAUCY ANNA and WHATA FEVER collided twice on the first bend but recovered to finish 1st and 2nd. MISS RUMMO. Trainer L.Bliek. Rule 258 (3). In season and stood down for 30 days to 22.03.04. FRIENDLY PRINCE. Trainer Caffell / Jackson. Rule 259. Suffering from a toe injury and stood down for 30 days to 22.03.04.
Race 11 TED TAYLOR - C1 - 290 SUPREME PARAGON was checked on the first bend when racing onto the heels of HURRICANE FOG. DR ADONIS settled well back but made a forward move on the bend until blocked. He then moved out quickly and pushed MISS KIRSTY and HURRICANE FOG very wide. MISS KIRSTY made contact with the hurdles stacked on the outside fence and was classed as a fallen runner. A vets examination revealed slight abrasions but no stand down was ordered.
Race 12 GOBIS SERIES HEAT 1 - RESq - 545 Heat 1 ASTRO NERONE was scratched Ex Waikato on 20.02.04. The favourite CLYDEBANK was the slowest away but was too classy for the others and won with ease. ASTRO NERONE. Trainer L.Fornasiere. Ex Waikato on 20.02.04.
Race 13 A & P ASSOCIATION - C2 - 290 CHAPPELLI was slow to begin and finished a long last. The vets examination revealed that the dog was suffering from toe injuries and a 10 day spell was ordered. The two favourites RALPH and KNOCKABOUT NELLY ran very wide on the bend and ruined their chance of a placing. BRON ROME also ran wide into the straight and covered extra ground. CHAPPELLI. Trainer P.Knights. Rule 329. Suffered a toe injury and stood down for 10 days to 04.03.04.
Race 14 GOBIS SERIES HEAT 2 - RESq - 545 Heat 1 BUSTING OUT was checked several times on the first bend when tightly placed between other runners.
Race 15 SMART WOODS - C3/4 - 290 SAMMY NAVIGATOR was slow away and lost about three lengths.
