Judicial report: Weather: Overcast and warm conditions. A charge under Rule 322(1)(b) was preferred against GA Cleeve and WEAR THE FERN. The charge was admitted with WEAR THE FERN stood down under rule 322 (2)(b) for a period of three months and to undertake a satisfactory trial in accordance with Rule 179.

Race 1 PEDIGREE ADVANCE STAKES - C2 - 520 Trainer BC Dann was late to the kennels, missing his stir up. In explanation he said when running to the kennels he stepped into a hole, ripping the sole from his right boot. He advised the kennel staff that he would be a few minutes late pending repairs to the boot, arriving at the kennels 7 minutes prior to race start time. No further action was warranted. The favourite RICH FIRE was slow to jump from the boxes, however finished strongly in the home straight for fourth. Into the home straight SEASPRAY ROCK checked out off the hindquarters of the improving RICH FIRE, taking ASHCROFT BALE wide on the track,these two dogs finishing near the rear. THRILLING FLOYD (JT McInerney) mild pain right shoulder. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 5 days up to and including 14 February 2004.
Race 2 METRO TRUST GOBIS - HEAT 1 - RESq - 520 Heat 1 The short priced favourite GEOFFREY CRAYON was slow to jump from the boxes, settling last. Around the first corner when improving, he moved out in front of TULONGA LOAFER, being pushed sideways for a number of strides by that dog. He ran on wide down the back and in the approach to the home straight, moved out sharply off the hindquarters of TURBO ROYALE recovering well to run on for second. Into the first corner TOP BRASS was squeezed by HOMEBUSH BILL on his outer when racing mid field. He settled last, never improving during the running.
Race 3 ROCKCOTE SPRINT - C2 - 295 DICTATION and KIWI KID drifted to last soon after jumping from the boxes. Into the first corner HIT A HOMER and HOMEBUSH JET fell, with EFFERVESCENCE sustaining a severe check as a result of tightening by dogs on their outer. EFFERVESCENCE never recovered finishing sixth. Both HIT A HOMER and HOMEBUSH JET regained their feet to finish the event some considerable distance behind the field. They were both checked by the Club Veterinarian who detected no injuries.
Race 4 METRO TRUST GOBIS - HEAT 2 - RESq - 520 Heat 1 Into the first corner the short priced favourite BANKSIDE BRAT came in contact with GOLD TOY on her inner when vying for the lead. BANKSIDE BRAT lost 2-3 lengths and thereafter battled, finishing fifth. She was checked by the Club Veterinarian after the event, who found her to have tied up as a result of contact with GOLD TOY, recommending no stand down period. DARK SLIDER was slow to jump from the boxes, settling last finishing seventh. In the approach to the first corner WEAR THE FERN eased from a tight position inside MOANA NUI, thereafter drifting to last. On the approach to the home straight WEAR THE FERN was observed to slow down and pull up. He was checked by the Club Veterinarian who detected nothing amiss. A charge was preferred against WEAR THE FERN and Trainer GA Cleeve under Rule 322 (1) (b). He elected to plead guilty to the charge, with WEAR THE FERN stood down for a period of 3 months in accordance with Rule 322 (2) (b). WEAR THE FERN (GA Cleeve) Rule 322 (1) (b) 3 months up to and including 10 May 2004.
Race 5 SUPERPETS SPRINT - C2 - 295 Around the firsr corner HOMEBUSH KAYCEE checked out off the hindquarter off the eventual winner SHIRAZ VINE, as that dog drove down to the rail and the lead. As a result of HOMEBUSH KAYCEE'S outward movement, the favourite ZINGER'S NOTCH was forced over extra ground. ZINGER'S NOTCH ran on for fourth, with HOMEBUSH KAYCEE finishing second to last.
Race 6 EXCELSIOR SPORTS BAR STAKES - C3 - 520 CHALLENGER BALE was slow to jump from the inside box settling last, and when endeavouring to improve around the first corner, brushed the rail when coming in contact with RUN 'EM DOWN. CHALLENGER BALE ran on fairly over the final stages for a distant second. TO LIVE BY was pushed wide around the first corner, however kept up a sustained run to finish third. Just short of the line BACK EAR JACK moved out off the hindquarters of TO LIVE BY, tightening JETSET TOKEN on his outer, that dog sustaining a check as he crossed the finishing line.
Race 7 PUB CHARITY STAKES - C4/5 - 520 CARDIOGRAM and TURBO WARRIOR came together into the first corner, losing momentum, with a resulting check to TRENT BALE. These dogs never recovered, finishing amongst the tail enders.
Race 8 DAVID EMERSON CONSULTANCY SPRINT - C4 - 295 BOY RACER was slow to jump from the inside box, settling last. Into the first corner BACK HERE MACKA was tightened between dogs, sustaining a check, finishing near the rear .
Race 9 METRO TRUST GOBIS - HEAT 3 - RESq - 520 Heat 1 RED HOT MINI ran wide around the first corner, and down the back straight finishing sixth. EBONY DELUXE (WM Tijsen) stomach cramps. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 19 February 2004. CYBIL DEFENCE (AH Lee) left hock sprain. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 14 days up to and including 21 February 2004.
Race 10 WILSONS SPORTS BAR SPRINT - C3 - 295 HERE GOES and JACK THE ALIEN were slow to jump from the boxes, settling at the rear of the field, finishing amongst the tail enders. TOKEN TALK eased as a result of general tightening around the first corner, losing all chance, finishing near the rear.
Race 11 BILLS BAR & BISTRO DISTANCE - C1/2d - 732 All clear. TOKEN GENIUS (GA Cleeve) azotaxia. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 14 days up to and including 23 February 2004. WHISKY PETE (JT McInerney) right hind toe sprain. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 19 February 2004. BLUE FERN (GA Cleeve) left hind toe sprain. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 14 days up to and including 22 February 2004. TUKI AQUA (JT McInerney) was a late scratching at kennelling when found lame in the right fore sesamoid. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 7 days up to and including 17 February 2004.
Race 12 ABRAHAMS SPORTS BAR SPRINT - C5 - 295 Into the first corner, LIGHTENING LIGHT and FLIGHTY were checked as a result of tightening by dogs on their outer. CORDU BALE and HOMEBUSH STEVE fell as a result with OLD MONARO running wide to avoid the skirmish. FLIGHTY and LIGHTENING LIGHT finished behind the placegetters with the other two dogs regaining their feet and finishing the event. Both were checked by the Club Veterinarian who detected no injuries.
