Judicial report: Weather: Fine Race 1. No 9, Bobbymite ( B Hughes), did not complete the course (running off at the final hurdle) and was required to complete a satisfactory trial in terms of Rule 179 - his papers to be endorsed on the completion of such satisfactory trial.
Race 2 The trainer of Dr Ricardi, D Van Meeuwen,(represented by R Van Meeuwen), accepted that the greyhound had turned just before the winning post. A charge under Rule 322 1.(a) was brought and the greyhound was suspended in terms of Rule 322. 2 (a) for one month, to the 9 March 2004. A satisfactory trial in terms of Rule 179 was also required of Dr Ricardi.

Race 1 HAUTAPU HURDLES - C1h - 457 Hurdles. No falls, no injuries. Bobbymite failed to complete the course, running off at the final hurdle, and was required to complete a satisfactory trial. No 4 Lucy Loose (AM Cleaver). Euthanised on 05.02.04.
Race 2 MANUKAU DASH - C1 - 375 Dr Ricardi was the early leader before Go Tyler Go took over and held until just short of the line where Dr Ricardi surged through on the track inner and took a close decision. Robust Rock was squeezed for room at the jump and on moving outwards was galloped on from behind by Sue Van Gill. Robust Rock stayed wide from that point. Ollymacron also went wide during the running. At the close of the race Dr Ricardi was observed to have turned towards an outer dog and was later subject of a suspension for failing to pursue the lure. No 5 Dr Ricardi (D Van Meeuwen). Suspended until 09.03.04.
Race 3 MANAWATU STAKES - C0 - 457 Den Of Fire showed little regard for the other competitors with an end to end lead. No 5 Make Me Wild (D Garrett). Rule 259. Right thigh strain. Stand down 10 days to 18.02.04. VC held.
Race 4 1ST MAIDEN SPRINT - C0 - 375 Run Jimmy Run was slow to jump - moving up with the lid of his box. Black Tyler, after dwelling slightly at the start was shouldered by Run Jimmy Run before taking and holding the lead until Real Silence, having moved around the field, challenged strongly down the straight and took a close decision in the last strides. No 6 Sort Of Blue (BL Hood). Under stand down from injury sustained in heat at non tote meeting at Palmerston North on 7.02.04.
Race 5 WELLINGTON STAKES - C1 - 457 Lowen Behold, from box 4, was squeezed for running room by the dogs which jumped from adjacent boxes, rearing up somewhat and remaining at the rear throughout. Rawhiti Rogue crossed sharply from box 6 and the field tightened up considerably at the first bend - Slender Maree ran clear and held well. Bozo Fulton was checked in the early running. .
Race 6 2ND MAIDEN SPRINT - C0 - 375 Seven starters after late scratching of Son Of Sarabi. The favourite Wee Silver Hawk conceded ground by starting slowly and was not able to gather in the early pacemaker, Mana Watt, as they ran to the line. LATE SCRATCHING - No 8 Son Of Salabi (G Frost). Rule 259 - tracheal infection. Stand down 3 days to 12.02.04. Dog presented. VC held.
Race 7 DUNEDIN DASH - C1 - 375 Cardinai Kev showed early speed but then began to drift and ended up towards the rear, with no marked improvement from there. Faithful Bart settled on the rail after an early scramble for his footing at the jump, then moved forward strongly and held well to the line. No 5 Blue County (G Frost). Under stand down from Waikato & District meeting on 5.02.04.
Race 8 DINSDALE DASH - C2 - 375 Kiwi Fire and Opening Time were in bother at the rear after shoulder to shoulder contact following the jump - Opening Time's back legs skewed sideways and Kiwi Fire was impeded in his path. Both dogs never made any improvement from the rear. Tap To It cleared away from the field to win by a margin in excess of eleven lengths and set a new track record for the sprint distance.
Race 9 ADDINGTON STAKES - C1 - 457 Just The Don was slow to start, conceding ground and never really being in contention. The favourite Muslie Man proved too strong in the straight when running down the pacemaker, No Invitation. No 4 Someone (NP Green). Rule 259. Stand down 10 days to 15.02.04. VC issued.
Race 10 WANGANUI SPRINT - C1 - 375 Race clear.
Race 11 HATRICK STAKES - C1 - 457 Race clear. No 4 Oxey (M Laagland). Rule 259 - soreness to right side triceps. Stand down 2 days to 11.02.04. Dog presented. VC held.
Race 12 SOLWAY SPRINT - C2/3 - 375 Nigella Bale, a favoured runner, was quickly to the front on the rail but mid bend started to feel the pressure and moved wide - was buffeted by other dogs, in particular Shar Nazir, and did not improve - drifting back to the rear.
Race 13 HAMILTON DISTANCE - C1d - 630 The favourite Egyptian Gold missed the jump slightly but when the field bunched tightly at the first bend was able to move forward in pursuit of the early pacemaker, Tokenism - the two putting a wide margin on the rest of the field. In the run down the straight to the line Egyptian Gold took the track inner and prevailed at the finish.
Race 14 WAIKATO STAKES - C2 - 457 Milanion set the early pace until Bingo Appeal surged away at the straight entrance and ran with ease to the line. No 4 Superstitious (J & D Fahey). Rule 259 - scouring. Stand down 10 days to 19.02.04. No 8 Walton Bale (GN Pomeroy). Rule 259 - hip support soreness. Stand down 10 days to 16.02.04. Dog presented. VC held.
Race 15 SOUTHLAND SPRINT - C4/5 - 375 Seven starters. Blue Paragon sped away in style from the jump and created a margin sufficient enough to withstand a strong late challenge from the favourite Oakland Havoc. Blue Paragon established a new track record in this race. No 3 Stanton Bale (GN Pomeroy). Rule 259 - torn saddle muscle. Stand down 30 days to 07.03.04. No 5 Cawbourne Jack (K Walsh). Rule 259 - back spasms. Stand down 7 days to 15.02.04. Dog presented. VC held. No 8 Bullman Bale (GN Pomeroy). Rule 259 - hock strain. Stand down 10 days to 18.02.04. Dog presented. VC held.
Race 16 CAMBRIDGE STAKES - C3/4 - 457 Keen Precision started the quickest but proved no match for the favourite Idol Appeal who drew away from the field in the run to the line. No 5 Brooklyn Ash (McIntyre/Flowers). Rule 259 - hock strain. Stand down 10 days to 17.02.04. Dog presented. VC held. No 8 Poco King (O'Regan). Withdrawn by NZGRA Executive.
