Judicial report: Weather: Fine JUBILANT MISS was scratched under Rule 377 (5) and Trainer G.Darby was Fined $ 50-00 under Rule 134 (10) for failing to complete transfer papers by the required time.
Trainer A.Gardner was Fined $ 100-00 under Rule 269 (3) for presenting the dog RALPH underweight.

Race 1 HIGH FLYERS HURDLES TROPHY RACE - C1h - 505 The start of this race was delayed by four minutes when the lure malfunctioned and minor repairs were made. The course caretaker was questioned and confirmed that he had tested the lure prior to the races and everything was in order. The hot favourite ARANUI JAZZ fell at the second to last fence when he appeared to have the race in safe keeping. He suffered a slight injury and will stand down for 7 days. ARANUI JAZZ. Trainer M.Boyd. Rule 329. Fell and suffered from bruising. Stood down for 7 days to 02.02.04.
Race 2 GERRANDS GEMTIME JEWELLERS - HAWERA - C0 - 297 JUBILANT MISS was a late scratching from the race under Rule 377 (5)when it was found that the dog had changed kennels but the Association had never been advised by the required time. The Trainer was fined $ 50-00 under Rule 134 (10). ROCKING QUEEN ran wide and pushed SUPREME DUDE wide on the bend and over extra ground. BERNIE JOHN, JUNIOR'S FARM and NORMANDY came together and jostled soon after the start and they never recovered and filled the last three places. JUBILANT MISS. Trainer G.Darby ( unofficial ). Rule 377 (5) The Association not advised by the required time of a change of kennels.
Race 3 OXFORD HOTEL - LEVIN - C0 - 505 ARDISHAH was scratched and started in Race 11. ALTHORPE was scratched due to kennel cough and will spell for 10 days. SUPREME BET was galloped on by GO FAITH GO on the first corner and fell but was not injured. FLYING ROWLEY was galloped on by WHEELCHAIR JIM at the end of the back straight and fell with WHEELCHAIR JIM losing all chance. FLYING ROWLEY suffered a slight stifle injury and will spell for 7 days. SUPREME BET started to run back towards the field after falling but this did not affect the result and the all clear to pay was given after a slight delay. ARDISHAH. Trainer C.Morris. Race 4 AUSSIE MEATS - LEVIN - C1 - 297 MISS KERBY was galloped on by REGGAE DANCE on the first corner and they both fell but were uninjured.
Race 5 CHARLES BOYCE VETERINARIAN - C1 - 297 IMPOSTER was very slow away and finished in last place. The favourite SAMBUCA PETE was checked on the first corner and again on the home turn and lost ground on both occasions.
Race 6 AWAPUNI HOTEL MOTEL - C1 - 505 All clear.
Race 7 MANAWATU SECURITY SERVICES - C1 - 505 HAPPY FELLA was scratched due to a slight muscle injury. One of the favourites KIWI MANA ran very wide on the first corner and stayed out covering extra ground and finished well back. CLAIRE EYES finished last and appeared sore. She was stood down for 7 days with a leg muscle injury. HAPPY FELLA. Trainer S.Gommans. Rule 259. Abductor muscle injury and was presented and stood down for 7 days to 01.02.04. CLAIRE EYES. Race 8 WANGANUI CAR CENTRE - C2 - 297 MOBILE MANIA was checked on the first turn when BROOKES GEM moved out. SOME CANDY moved out soon after the start and jostled MOBILE MANIA and PRESIDENT UNO for several strides. PRESIDENT UNO suffered a webbing injury and will stand down for 7 days. PRESIDENT UNO. Trainer S.Gommans. Rule 329. Suffered a webbing injury and stood down for 7 days to 02.02.04.
Race 9 KIA TOA RUGBY CLUB - C2 - 505 BLACK HONDA was scratched and started in Race 16. KOJAZZ, NOBLE JEWEL and TROYBADOR made contact on the first corner and TROYBADOR fell, suffering a carpus injury and was stood down for 14 days. TIGER EYES and TUSCANY BALE were pushed wide in the incident and lost all chance. One of the favourites JODAMAN was handy into the back straight but faltered and dropped back to eventually finish near the rear. He was examined by the vet and found to be suffering from slight heat stress but no stand down was required. BLACK HONDA. Trainer F.Farmer. Started in Race 16. TROYBADOR. Trainer S.Gardner. Rule 329. Fell and suffered a carpus injury. Stood down for 14 days to 09.02.04.
Race 10 MANAWATU SOUND SERVICE TROPHY RACE - C0 - 297 NITE HAWK LADY ran wide on the bend but then recovered well to win the race. DIG FOR DIAMONDS was found to have turned its head to fight on the home turn and was stood down for 30 days under Rule 322 and will be required to Trial under Rule 179. DIG FOR DIAMONDS. Trainer B & E Gough. Rule 322 (1) (a) & ( 2) (b) Stood down for 30 days to 25.02.04.
Race 11 BRYCE FRANCIS GRAPHICS TROPHY RACE - C0 - 505 RUBY HALL was scratched due to a toe injury. TINKAMORE and SHONI'S LIGHT were slow away with TINKAMORE settling last after dipping and almost falling. RUBY HALL. Trainer A.Hall. Rule 259. Suffering from a toe injury and was presented and stood down for 7 days to 31.01.04.
Race 12 ALBION TAVERN SHANNON TROPHY RACE - C1 - 297 CALM FLOW and DOCTOR FLYNT bumped for several strides in the back straight until CALM FLOW eventually went back and out, causing severe checks to JENNY D'OR and STRATHBURN LAD who lost all chance.
Race 13 RAPIDVITE SUPPLEMENTS TROPHY RACE - C2 - 297 All clear.
Race 14 SUPERIOR GREYHOUND KIBBLE TROPHY RACE - C1 - 505 ASTRO NERONE ran in on the first corner and caused tightening which resulted in SHAVE THE SHEEP falling and WHATA FEVER being badly checked and losing all chance. SHAVE THE SHEEP was uninjured. The favourite STATELY CHARM was checked early in the back straight and went from handy back to the rear and stayed there.
Race 15 PETER SINCLAIR PHOTOS TROPHY RACE - C3 - 505 TIGHNABRUICH was scratched due to kennel cough. NESSIE'S CHARM was scratched late when found to be in season shortly before start time.. WINSOME ESCAPE was scratched due to a toe injury. PROSPERINE was scratched due to kennel cough. The race was all clear. TIGHNABRUICH. Trainer O.Marron. Rule 259. Race 16 CLARK SEAFOOD DELI TROPHY RACE - C2 - 505 CHILLI CREEK was scratched and is now deceased. RALPH was a late scratching when found to be underweight and the Trainer was fined $ 100-00 under Rule 269 (3). HOLLY PHOENIX and FRIENDLY PRINCE collided on the first corner with HOLLY PHOENIX dropping back a few places. CHLLI CREEK. Trainer G & S Hayden - Holmes. Now deceased. RALPH. Trainer A.Gardner.
