Race 1 TOP NOSH DASH - C0 - 318 Even despatch. Opening Time and Farmer Benson disputed lead in early running - Opening Time on the track inner and Farmer Benson out wide. Closing on the line Wee Silver Hawk surged between the two leaders, just as Farmer Benson moved back towards winning post - impeding Wee Silver Hawk's path and chances. Opening Time held for the win on the inner.
Race 2 STREETS ICE CREAM MAIDEN STAKES - HEAT 1 - C0q - 527 Heat 1 Heavy rain for this race. Stallone and Supreme Bet amongst slowest to jump - Stallone moved across to rail before Supreme Bet moved up and sought to take position on rail in front of Stallone. As Supreme Bet went alongside Stallone that dog moved sharply off the rail and carted Supreme Bet very wide - both dogs scrambling for their footing as they buffeted each other for supremacy. Supreme Bet did the better to reach fourth at the line after seemingly being out of contentiion. Miss Tracey Lee and Den Of Fire were in sharp contact twice in the running, Den Of Fire skewing sideways after second such incident.
Race 3 BELLBIRD ARMS SPRINT - HEAT 1 - C1q - 318 Heat 1 Retro Robbie took commanding early lead and held well to line. The field tightened noticeably running into bend.
Race 4 BELLBIRD ARMS SPRINT - HEAT 2 - C1q - 318 Heat 1 Last Star conceded ground early when slow at start. Flash Mistress was checked during middle stages when squeezed between Over Step and Rainbird after crossing over towards the track inner. No 5 Black Pandora (Caffell/Jackson). Rule 259. Stand down 10 days to 29.01.04. VC held. No 9 Can Candy Capp (A Duganzich). Rule 254 (100K).
Race 5 STREETS ICE CREAM MAIDEN STAKES - HEAT 2 - C0q - 527 Heat 1 Patience took an early lead and streamed away for the win. Bonnie Token moved in against Spooky Fella at the first bend then bounced out wide from where she made little further improvement. Just Hasty, racing near the rail until the middle stages suddenly flared out wider on the track - stayed out wide and despite covering extra ground did well to place second at the finish. .
Race 6 BELLBIRD ARMS SPRINT - HEAT 3 - C1q - 318 Heat 1 Satara led from Winsome Eels in the run to the bend and retained the close margin at the line. Miss Dusty was squeezed for racing room in the intial stages, was skewed sideways and dropped towards the rear, not featuring further.
Race 7 BELLBIRD ARMS SPRINT - HEAT 4 - C1q - 318 Heat 1 Race clear. No 7 Lucky Ollie (W Steele). Rule 259 -Soreness to right hock. Stand down 10 days to 29.01.04. Dog presented. VC held.
Race 8 TINT-A-CAR STAKES - C1 - 527 Dr Kingsley was quickly to the rail, impeding the favourite Ina Tizzy on the inner. Token Sniper took the lead and held until the final strides where Dr Kingsley stormed down the track outer, having set off from towards the rear, and took the win with ease.
Race 9 BELLBIRD ARMS SPRINT - HEAT 5 - C1q - 318 Heat 1 Poetical was the first to show, with Mavriki Enya on the outside. Walton Bale worked through the field from the rear, entering the straight went to the rail, and then switched to the outside of the leader Poetical, taking a nose decision with his surge for the line.
Race 10 BELLBIRD ARMS SPRINT - HEAT 6 - C1q - 318 Heat 1 Chadlington conceded ground when slow to start. Winsome Dough,from box 2, pushed sharply across the face of the field ,was buffeted badly, turned sideways momentarily before regaining momentum and yet was still able to go forward and finish second at the line. Dr Ricardi, the favourite, was compromised badly when Winsome Dough moved wide after the jump, and pushed him wide on the track.
Race 11 CATERING PROFESSIONALS STAKES - C1 - 527 The favourite, Super Tod,at very short odds, was a little slow to start, moved to behind the leaders was then checked twice in the back straight and from that point was virtuallyout of contention. Musile Man launched a strong run around the field at the end of the back straight and held well to the line.
Race 12 VALLEY POOL DASH - C1/2 - 318 Tap To It cleared away from the field - leaving a badly bunching group in his wake,and ran unchallenged to the line. Chalke's Honcho moved out after the jump and came into shoulder contact with Sue Van Gill - then outer running dogs, Elle's Rocket and Miss Jade, came together as well. Miss Jade was particularly affected, skewing sideways and scrambling to regain momentum. Wild Whiz checked Chalke's Honcho, forcing that dog to settle near the rail. No 9 Gin Ginger Capp (A Duganzich). Rule 254 (100K).
Race 13 OASIS BAR DASH - C1/2 - 318 Waitak Attack led briefly before Turf Mucher moved up a notch, took control and held to the line. Illegitimate checked of the back of Some Candy after the jump, Illegitimate being fortunate not to tumble, losing ground when scrambling to regain momentum.
Race 14 COCA-COLA STAKES - C2 - 527 Seven starters, with late scratching of Hot Discovery. Kaiser Izmir was positioned handy to the lead then appeared to dip backwards on his haunches before drifting to the rear - he did move forward somewhat but again drifted and tailed the field home. A veterinary check post race revealed toe bruising to Kaiser Izmir. (Late scratching). No 5 Hot Discovery (B Hughes). Repeated vomiting on day.Stand down 5 days to 24.01.04. Dog presented. VC held.
Race 15 MEADOWSET GRAPHICS DASH - C3 - 318 Race clear. No 6 Sumability Bale (GN Pomeroy). Rule 259 - hock injury. Stand down 30 days to 14.02.04. VC held. No 8 Cecelia Tony (B & L Craik). Rule 259 - swollen toe, right foreleg. Stand down 10 days to 29.01.04. VC held.
Race 16 ROYAL WOLF CONTAINERS AUCKLAND DERBY - HEAT 1 - R/Aq - 527 Heat 1 Big Teddy Boy moved out at the first bend, checked off the back of Ballibeast, then fell to the track in front of Jodoman and Lowen Behold - those dogs were forced to hurdle the fallen greyhound and were out of contention from there. Big Teddy Boy tailed the field home and was cleared of injury at a post race veterinary examination.
Race 17 ROYAL WOLF CONTAINERS AUCKLAND DERBY - HEAT 2 - R/Aq - 527 Heat 1 Race clear.
Race 18 RADIO PACIFIC DASH - C4/5 - 318 Cawbourne Jack careered away and ran unchallenged to the line, leaving a spread-eagled field behind.
Race 19 BOMBAY PET FOODS STAKES - C3/4 - 527 Bitter Sammy was the best at the jump, then held a good margin until just short of the finishing line when Thrilling Heidi closed strongly for second. Thrilling Heidi ran with shoulder to shoulder contact with Jessta Lilbit into the first bend.
