Judicial report: Weather: Beautifully clear and warm. A charge under Rule 256 was preferred against trainer GA Cleeve in respect of the scratching of ICE FERN from Race 2, the Coasters Tavern Distance over 732m. Cleeve pleaded not guilty to the charge. Evidence was given that ICE FERN had competed the previous day in a distance race at Wanganui before being transported home overnight. She was presented for examination by the Club Veterinary surgeon who reported ICE FERN to have neither an illness of injury. After hearing the evidence, the Judicial Officer found the charge proven and imposed a fine of $100.00.

Race 1 PEDIGREE ADVANCE STAKES - C2 - 520 FLY BYE ANGEL drifted out to last before the first corner, running wide around that bend and into the back straight, finishing a distant last. IRINKA CHOCO who settled mid field into the first corner was struck from behind by CHALLENGER BALE, losing momentum drifting out to finish in seventh place well behind the body of the field. Both dogs were checked by the Club Veterinarian following the event, he detecting nothing amiss with either dog.
Race 2 COASTERS TAVERN DISTANCE - C1d - 732 All clear. ICE FERN (GA Cleeve) returned from racing at Wanganui the previous evening and said by trainer to be drinking more than she should be. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 7 days up to and including 15 January 2004.
Race 3 GARRARDS HORSE AND HOUND SPRINT - C2 - 295 BROKEN BACK JACK drifted to last soon after jumping from the boxes. Into the first corner ZINGER'S NOTCH struck the hindquarters of the eventual winner NOVEMBER BLOSSOM, coming back through the field rapidly. Soon after this incident MARRICK MAID was tightened between dogs when coming back on a trailing PETITE JEWEL. These dogs never recovered from these incidents, finishing at the rear of the field. PANAMA COBRA (LJ Waretini) in season. Rule 258. 30 days up to and including 7 February 2004.
Race 4 WILSONS SPORTS BAR STAKES - C3/4 - 520 WAR TOKEN and BACK EAR JACK ran wide around the first bend and into the back straight, WAR TOKEN running on for third, with BACK EAR JACK finishing well back. NOAH drifted out to last during the middle stages of the race, never improving in the running, finshing a distant last. He was checked by the Club Veterinarian and found to have sustained a torn right hip support, with a 21 day stand down recommended. NOAH (P & B Conner) Rule 329. 21 days up to and including 29 January 2004.
Race 5 GEORGE CALVERT CLEANERS STAKES - C1 - 520 DARK SLIDER ran wide around the first corner into the back straight, settling mid field, never improving. Across the top MARIO SCENARIO improved on the inside of HOT RED MINI and CECILIA LUGER, checking HOT RED MINI who drifted out to finish last, with MARIO SCENARIO running on for third.
Race 6 SHIRLEY VETERINARY CENTRE SPRINT - C2/3 - 295 Into the the first corner JACK THE ALIEN, HAWK DREAMER and FEARLESS MAGOO came together, losing momentum. They never recovered filling the last three places.
Race 7 SUPERPETS SOCKBURN CUP - C2d - 732 Into the first corner SUPER GOLD checked off the heels of AQUA GOOFY, losing momentum. He settled beyond mid field, never improving during the running.
Race 8 BILLS BAR & BISTRO SPRINT - C4 - 295 MISTER HOWLEY was slow to jump from the inside box, settling mid field running on over the concluding stages for fourth.
Race 9 COFFEE CLUB ON HALSWELL STAKES - C5 - 520 Into the first corner GEOFFREY CRAYON ran wide when racing near the rear of the field, taking TURBO WARRIOR wide with him. At the end of the back straight DAPHNE BALE struck the hindquarters of KERCHAK, drifting through the field, finishing last. GEOFFREY CRAYON and TURBO WARRIOR never recovered from the earlier incident, finishing amongst the tail enders.
Race 10 RAPIDVITE NEW ZEALAND SPRINT - C5 - 295 Turning for home GRAND MOVER moved outwards coming in contact with ENLIGHTENING, who in turn was forced out onto RINALDI ASTON. These dogs lost all chance as a result of this incident, finishing at the rear of the field.
