Judicial report: Weather: Sunny and hot conditions. The enquiry under Rule 256 in respect of the scratching of AQUA COSTI at the Christchurch Greyhound Racing Club's meeting on 31 December 2003 was reconvened. After hearing the explanation of Trainer JR Goode, the Judicial Steward issued a warning to Goode to make arrangements to ensure that he received communication from the Club Secratary on race morning.

Race 1 | NEW YEAR STAKES - C2 - 520 | The second favourite FLY BYE ANGEL was slow to jump from the outside box, running wide around the first bend into the back straight, finishing on strongly in the straight for fourth. Into the back straight BAGHDAD TOKEN checked out off the hindquarters of EFFERVESCENCE, both dogs losing momentum finishing at the rear of the field. |
Race 2 | SOUTHERN TRUST DISTANCE - C1/2d - 732 | Into the first corner MULBERRY MOANA almost fell as a result of general tightening, losing all chance as a result finishing a distant last. The favourite CLISTON BONNIE and WASTE BIN were also affected by the incident, finishing amongst the tail enders. MULBERRY MOANA was checked after the event by the Club Veterinarian and found a right hock sprain, recommending a 10 day stand down. Race 3 | PUB CHARITY SPRINT - C2 - 295 | All clear. MAY WELL BE (GA Cleeve) was a late scratching at kenneling when found to be in season. Rule 258. 30 days up to and including 30 January 2004. |
Race 4 | CENTURY FOUNDATION STAKES - C3/4 - 520 | TO LIVE BY came up with the lids, losing approximately 1-2 lengths, finishing on over the concluding stages for fifth. |
Race 5 | COMMUNITY GRANTS FOUNDATION SPRINT - C4 - 295 | I'VE GOT FLAIR was slightly tardy when jumping from Box 1, settling well back. Into the first corner she and EJAY'S LANDING were tightened by dogs on their outer, losing momentum finishing amongst the tail enders. Soon after this incident the favourite YEAP and BACK HERE MACKA were tightened, losing all chance, finishing towards the end of the field. |
Race 6 | NEW ZEALAND COMMUNITY TRUST STAKES - C3/4 - 520 | Into the first corner JETSET TOKEN ran out off the hindquarters of CARDIOGRAM, forcing BACK EAR JACK, RAILROAD PAT and TUKI AQUA wide on the track. These dogs never recovered finishing at the rear of the field. SATIN GRIP (JF Allen) dehydration. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Race 7 | FLAIR STAKES - C5 - 520 | HONEST BIRD and POWER WITHIN came together around the first corner, losing momentum with a check to TOKEN GENIUS. TOKEN GENIUS powered home in the straight to finish fourth, with the other dogs finishing near the rear of the field. |
Race 8 | METRO TRUST SPRINT - C5 - 295 | The favourite AWESOME PAUL and GRAND MOVER were slow to jump from the boxes, settling well back. AWESOME PAUL improved along the rail running on for third, with GRAND MOVER finishing fifth . ROTKARA BOMBER (MMGrant) diarrhoea. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 5 days up to and including 3 January 2004. FLIGHTY (MM Grant) was a late scratching at kennelling after suffering a bee sting which had been treated with an anthistamine tablet. Race 9 | BENDIGO VALLEY SPORTS FOUNDATION STAKES - C5 - 520 | DR ABERNATHY ran wide around the first corner into the back straight when racing near the rear of the field, finishing second to last. MY TOOT TOOT (AH Lee) deceased. CHANTILLY BALE (AC Roberts) was a late scratching at kennelling when found to have right hock pain. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 14 days up to and including 14 January 2004. |
Race 10 | IT'S BEEN A LONG NIGHT SPRINT - C3 - 295 | Into the first corner DR COSMO, PANAMA COBRA and HOMEBUSH BRIAN were checked as a result of general tightening. Soon after this incident TRINITY CHASE and the favourite HAWK DREAMER came together, losing all chance. These dogs filled the last five places. BLONDE FEVER (M & J Jopson) right hock sprain.
