Waikato Greyhound Racing Club

Cambridge Raceway ON WEDNESDAY 24 Dec 2003

Weather:
Track: Soft
Scales: Correct at all weights
Health and Safety comment:

Judicial report: Weather: Variable, with heavy early morning showers changing to fine weather when racing commenced. 1. Race 4 was abandoned in terms of Rule 305 when the leading greyhound caught and attacked the lure. This heat of a maiden series was not re-run, as a large marjority of the trainers concerned did not wish their charges to do so. The finalist was drawn, by lot, and Linnymay, No 7, went forward to the final. The greyhound Den Of Fire, No 8, was drawn as a reserve.
2. A charge of failing to pursue, in terms of Rule 322.1.(b) was brought against the greyhound Dr Ricardi, No 8 in race seven. Mr R Van Meeuwen, the handler for the trainer, D Van Meeuwen, argued that whilst he conceded that his charge had turned away from the lure and moved out towards a passing greyhound, that the extenuating circumstance of the poor functioning of the lure during this race, in that when his charge was leading the lure was barely at the minimum distance, then at the straight bottom was surged out suddenly to a wide margin, he was disadvantaged so badly that instead of winning, he finally only made third. The circumstance of the lure performance was conceded. The Judicial Chairman deemed that it was not an appropriate occasion, as all factors necessary were not equal or present, for the charge to be proven and ruled in accord with that summation, dismissing the charge.
