A box trial was ordered and this was completed satisfactorily. ALTHORPE, R5ALPH and SORT OF BLUE collided on the first corner and all lost some ground. |
Race 2 | WAIRARAPA LAUNDRY - C0 - 545 | HOMEBUSH KERRY, CLASSY CULLEN, MONTOYA DUSTY and HEZA SCALLYWAG were all slow to begin, could not make up the lost ground and filled the last four places. |
Race 3 | SOUTH WAIRARAPA VETS - C1/2 - 290 | RAGTIME REASON was scratched due to a toe injury. FLYAWAY BABE was also scratched due to a toe injury. RUSTY ROVER, SAI PHAR and OH SO LYRICAL came out slowly and settled at the rear. RUSTY ROVER then ran wide on the bend and forced OH SO LYRICAL over extra ground and they tailed the field home from there. RAGTIME REASON. Trainer J.Hill. Rule 259. Race 4 | RADIO PACIFIC - C1 - 545 | The favourite CLYDEBANK was one of slowest away but made up ground quickly and won with ease. UPAHUT AXION moved out on the first corner and caused checks to MADAM CHOLET, GAZZA'S DELIGHT and SMART TIP who were pushed wide. |
Race 5 | SPEIGHT'S GOLD - C1/2 - 290 | One of the favourites BOLD GYPSY was slow away and was then checked on the first turn and lost further ground. He was observed to be finishing on at the end of the race. CRUZMORE checked off the heels of PRICIPLE HONCHO on the home turn, moved out and pushed INKYMORE wide. |

Race 7 | RANCHMAN'S PET FOOD NZ HURDLES - HEAT 1 - C1/2hq - 545 Heat 1 | VAL'S BABE clipped the hurdle on the first bend and almost fell. She was examined by the vet and cleared of injury. CHEROKEE SQUAW fell after the next fence when she collided with PRINCE ZIDANE on landing. She was also uninjured. |
Race 8 | RANCHMAN'S PETFOOD NZ HURDLES - HEAT 2 - C1/2hq - 545 Heat 1 | SHAKA MALAWI ran onto the heels of ROTARY TALENT on the first corner, checked and ran very wide on the bend. PROPER FLAME fell at the hurdle in the back straight but was uninjured. |
