Race 2 | HEADS ROAD VETERINARY STAKES - C2 - 520 | CHIPPEWA BRAVE was a Club scratching due to being placed in the wrong distance race. General tightening on the first corner resulted in severe checks to SAUCY ANNA and EMPHATIC JEWEL who went back to the rear and never recovered CHIPPEWA BRAVE. Trainer B.Melville. Race 5 | ANDERSONS FOR MEN SPRINT - C4/5 - 305 | HOMEBUSH WILLY, SOMEONE'S MAGIC and BLACK ALLEGRO came together and jostled for several strides soon after the start. CAMPBELL BALE was slow to begin and was then checked on the bend. ALLEGRO BEAM was also checked on the bend, made contact with CAMPBELL BALE, ran wide and forced SOMEONE'S MAGIC wide into the straight. It was suspected that CAMPBELL BALE may have turned its head on the bend but this could not be conclusively established from the available videos. |
Race 6 | RUSH HIRE DISTANCE - C1/2d - 645 | GATLIN BALE moved out on the first corner and forced MISS BLUE VELVET, KIWI COMMAND, DARK RUE ANGEL and ESCALANTA DESERT wide on the bend and into the straight. They were not able to make up the lost ground and filled the last four places. |
Race 7 | ASR SPRAYPAINTING STAKES - C2/3 - 520 | WINSOME PRINCESS was scratched due to a toe injury. BURN THE PEG was handy into the first corner but was then bumped three times on the bend and dropped back to near the rear. He was observed to be finishing on at the end. WINSOME PRINCESS. Trainer W.T.Hodgson. Rule 259. Suffering from a toe injury. Stood down for 30 days to 08.01.04. |
Race 8 | EXCEED STAKES - C2/3 - 520 | One of the favourites EDGAR JAY was slow to begin and only battled to finish about mid-field. ROMAN JOURNEY settled in last place and then dropped further behind and finished a long last. He was examined by the vet and found to have a minor sand burn to the right hind pad and he was stood down for 5 days. It was noted that ROMAN JOURNEY had started at Auckland the previous evening and had finished last there as well. The dog should be thoroughly vetted for fitness before his next start. ROMAN JOURNEY. Race 10 | VITAPOWER SPRINT - C3 - 305 | GILBERT BALE and HOMEBUSH BRIAN collided on the first corner and HOMEBUSH BRIAN then ran out, made contact with GOOD VIBRATIONS and both went back to the rear. |
