Judicial report: Weather: Overcast JA ALFELD, trainer of KELBRETT JEMMA, was charged under Rules 172 and 204 in that she nominated KELBRETT JEMMA for the New Zealand Oaks when the bitch was ineligible for the event. She elected to plead guilty to the charge and was fined $25.00 by the Judicial Officer.

Race 1 PEDIGREE ADVANCE STAKES - C1 - 520 DARK SLIDER drifted to last soon after jumping from the boxes. Into the first corner the second favourite BURN THE PEG crossed over to trail the favourite and eventual winner TOKENISM, tightening dogs on his inner as a result. BEDAZZLED JEWEL, POLLY ABACUS, JEMALONG EASTERN, YALLAH GEM and CAMBODIA GIRL were all checked, losing some ground. YALLAH GEM and CAMBODIA GIRL ran on finishing third and fourth respectively, albeit some distance behind the first and second dogs, with the others finishing at the rear.
Race 2 FARRINGTON TAVERN STAKES - C1 - 520 THOMASON settled last after jumping from the boxes, however railed up around the first corner and into the back straight, trailing the leader WINSOME FEVER before finishing better in the home straight to win the event. Into the first corner ESTEEM ran off the rail, tightening CALL ME NELSON and POLAR KEV on his outer, these dogs both sustaining checks and coming back on a trailing RAZOR ROBERTSON. They never recovered from this incident, filling the last three places. The favourite CHALLENGER BALE was caught wide from his outside draw around the first corner, however improved along the back straight finishing fast over the concluding stages for third. WHISKEY BANDIT (JT McInerney) deceased. SUPERSTITIOUS (J&D Fahey) stood down at Christchurch GRC meeting on 20 November 2003. Rule 329. 10 days up to and including 29 November 2003.
Race 3 ROCKCOTE SPRINT - C2 - 295 DR SCHUMACHER went down on his nose when coming in contact with dogs on his outer, soon after jumping from the boxes. He recovered to finish on for fifth. Soon after this incident MISTY PRIDE, DR COSMO and HIT A HOMER came together, all three dogs losing momentum finishing amongst the tailenders. Into the first corner the second favourite LIGHT FROST led the field, however he ran wide taking BOY RACER on his outer with him, both dogs losing ground as a result. They finished second and fourth respectively. SHAR NAZIR (B&L Craik) stood down at Auckland GRC meeting on 21 November 2003. KEENAND MEAN (GA Cleeve) end of tail surgically removed. Race 4 ROBBIE'S BAR & BISTRO BELFAST STAKES - C4 - 520 Around the first bend QUEZON CITY and CARDIOGRAM came together for a number of strides when racing near the rear and wide. They never improved during the running, finishing at the rear of the field. FERRIS BALE (RS Parker) stood down the Christchurch GRC meeting on 20 November 2003. Rule 329. 10 days up to and including 29 November 2003.
Race 5 SUPERPETS STAKES - C2 - 520 At the end of the back straight an improving WORLD PRIORITY moved around and came in contact with MULBERRY LASS, resulting in her sustaining an injury and coming back on a trailing BALLYRUE ZING. WORLD PRIORITY ran on well for third with BALLYRUE ZING finishing seventh. MULBERRY LASS completed the event some considerable distance behind the field and she was checked by the Club Veterinarian who found her to have sustained a fractured hock, resulting in euthanasia on humane grounds. MULBERRY LASS (KJ Cassidy) deceased.
Race 6 TWIGGERS CABERET SPRINT - C3 - 295 ENDLESS STORY drifted to last soon after jumping from the boxes, never improving in the running. In the approach to the first corner the second favourite ULTRAVOX eased when tightened by dogs on his outer, eventually finishing fourth. Soon after this incident WAG, who was on the rail vying for the lead, eased coming back on MISTER HOWLEY, MICHAEL DIAMOND and BROKEN BACK JACK who were checked as a result. These three dogs never recovered, finishing at the rear of the field.
Race 7 COMMUNITY GRANTS FOUNDATION NEW ZEALAND OAKS HEAT 1 - R/Aq - 520 Heat 1 TOKEN ECHO was squeezed as a result of general tightening soon after jumping from the boxes, settling last. When endeavouring to improve into the first corner, she struck the hindquarters of NESSIE'S CHARM, running wide as a result. She settled last in the entrance to the back straight, running on fairly over the concluding stages for a distant fifth.
Race 8 WINNING EDGE SPRINT - C4 - 295 Into the first corner a trailing NOVEMBER BEAR ran outwards running wide on the track, taking CECILIA TONY, the favourite GRAND MOVER and RAPID EXPRESS with him. NOVEMBER BEAR ran on well for third, with the other dogs finishing amongst the tailenders. Into the home straight JACK THE ALIEN ran out, coming in contact with GRAND MOVER who lost further ground, finishing last. RINALDI ASTON (JT McInerney) right hind infected quick. Dog presented. Race 9 COMMUNITY GRANTS FOUNDATION NEW ZEALAND OAKS HEAT 2 - R/Aq - 520 Heat 1 BLUE FERN was slow to jump from the boxes and settling last and running wide around the first corner. She ran on over the concluding stages for a distant fourth. Into the first corner COMMANDO JEWEL was tightened between MARRICK MAID and THRILLING HEIDI, losing ground as a result. COMMANDO JEWEL and MARRICK MAID filled the last two places, with THRILLING HEIDI running on for second. The favourite and winner IDOL APPEAL ran wide into the home straight, however flattened out over the concluding stages to win well. BLANCHED (JF Allen) cut left hind toe. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 3 December 2003. BANKSIDE DREAM (Adcock/Hopping) right gracilus tear. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 21 days up to and including 14 December 2003. BANKSIDE NIGHT (Adcock/Hopping) left fore second toe sprain. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 10 days up to and including 4 December 2003. KELLBRETT JEMMA (JA Alfeld) ineligible. No penalty.
Race 10 COFFEE CLUB ON HALSWELL STAKES - C2/3 - 520 TO LIVE BY was slow to jump from the boxes, settling last. Into the first corner TURBO ROYALE drove down towards the rail and the lead from his outside draw before being climbed on by SEASPRAY PADERO. TURBO ROYAL fell as a result, bringing down a trailing CHICA, with checks to REDFORD BALE, TONY ROME and SEASPRAY PADERO. Both TURBO ROYALE and CHICA regained their feet and completed the event some distance behind the field. They were checked by the Club Veterinarian who detected nothing amiss with CHICA however upon cooling down TURBO ROYALE was found to have a left stifle laceration, a stand down period of 10 days being recommended. Race 11 COALGATE TAVERN STAKES - C5 - 520 All clear. BACK EAR JACK (JA Alfeld) was a late scratching at kennelling when found to have an elevated temperature. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 7 days up to and including 2 December 2003. CHANTILLY BALE (AC Roberts) right hip support pain. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule 259. 7 days up to and including 1 December 2003.
Race 12 THE MILLER BAR & CAFE SPRINT - C4/5 - 295 A five race field with the second favourite ENLIGHTENING having a good trip in the trail before railing up in the home straight to win well, with the other four dogs in a close finish for second and third. HOMEBUSH WILLY who settled last, had difficulty in obtaining a clear passage in the run home, finishing strongly in the shadows of the post, for a close up fourth.
