Judicial report: Weather: Overcast and cool conditions. Following the running of Race 1 it was ascertained that the winner PANAMA COBRA had been sold on Friday 24 October 2003 to the Crafty Crew Syndicate and trained by L Waratini. An inquiry was opened in accordance with Rule: 377 (2) and Waratini said that the relevant change of ownership papers were forwarded to the Association Office on Saturday 25 October 2003, being returned by them and received by her on Wednesday 29 October 2003. As there was no breach of the rule, no further action was required.
WT Hodgson, trainer of SHEZ'S CHARM, breach of Rules 135 (1) and 305 (3). Fined $100.00.

Race 1 PEDIGREE ADVANCE SPRINT - C1/2 - 295 Tinto the first corner BRIGHT ECHO moved down to the rail from her outside draw, before being struck from behind by ZIPPY ZAPPER, both dogs losing all chance as a result. BRIGHT ECHO was checked after the event by the Club Veterian who detected no injuries. The favourite PANAMA COBRA who tailed ZINGER'S NOTCH around the bend, received a run along the rail as ZINGER'S NOTCH ran wide turning for home, winning the event easily as a result.
Race 2 COALGATE TAVERN STAKES - C2 - 520 HOMEBUSH BILL was slow to jump from the boxes settling last, however improved down the back straight, finishing on well for a close up fifth. Entering the first corner NELLIE'S ANGEL struck the hindquarters of CALM DREAMER as a result of general tightening, with a resultant check to KNOCKABOUT NOVA. These three dogs lost all chance, finishing at the rear of the field. CALM DREAMER was examined by the Club Veterinarian and found to have a spiked left hind leg and ruptured toe ligament, recommending a 28 day stand down period. MULBERRY EUCHRE (KA Cassidy) In season. Rule 258. 30 days up to and including 27 November 2003. CALM DREAMER (GW Clark) Rule: 329. 28 days up to and including 26 November 2003.
Race 3 DIGGERS BAR AND CASINO SPRINT - C1/2 - 295 Soon after jumping from the boxes MORPHEUS was squeezed between DR COSMO and SUGAR SWEET, losing all chance settling last and never improving in the running. GILBERT BALE (AC Roberts) was a late scratching at kennelling when found with an infected right hind toenail. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule: 259. 7 days up to and including 5 November 2003.
Race 4 FARRINGTONS TAVERN STAKES - C3 - 520 Around the first bend JAY GEE'S BOY and JEMALONG BRUISER jostled for some distance when racing beyond mid field, losing momentum. They never improved in the running, finishing amongst the tail enders. SPEED TWIN (AC Roberts) split toenail left hind. Dog presented. Veterinary certificate supplied. Rule: 259. 7 days up to and including 3 November 2003.
Race 5 HORORATA HOTEL STAKES - C1 - 520 Approaching the first corner the second favourite BURN THE PEG was tightened between QUIET SPIRIT and USER FRIENDLY, coming back on the favourite CHALLENGER BALE and SUPERSTITIOUS. BURN THE PEG never recovered from the incident finishing last, with the other two dogs running on to finish just behind the place getters.
Race 6 ROCKCOTE SPRINT - C3 - 295 Around the first corner TOE BONE ran wide, taking BACK HERE MACKA on his outer with him. Neither dog recovered from this incident, finishing at the rear of the field.
Race 7 PUB CHARITY NEW ZEALAND ST LEDGER - R/A - 520 The favourite WINSOME GUY and TOKEN EGO drifted to last soon after jumping from the boxes. Into the first corner BANKSIDE DREAM ran outwards with TOKEN EGO and TOKEN ECHO running wide as a result. These dogs lost all chance as a result, filling the last three places. After his slow start the favourite WINSOME GUY finished on in the homestraight for fourth.
Race 8 ABRAHAMS BAR AND CAFE SPRINT - C5 - 295 Around the first corner LIGHTENING LIGHT, HE'S ALL GOSSIP and HOMEBUSH STEVE came together, losing ground as a result, filling the last three places. The second favourite CORDU BALE jumped to the lead on leaving the boxes, leading throughout to win impressively.
Race 9 WINNING EDGE STAKES - C4 - 520 WHITE TOKEN eased as a result of general tightening when vying for the lead into the first corner. At the end of the back straight CAPTAIN RATS was tighened by HOMEBUSH LAD, and upon enetering the home straioght these two dogs again came together losing momentum, filling the last two placings. WHITE TOKEN finished mid field.
Race 10 CANTERBURY DRAUGHT SIX PACK - C5 - 520 All clear.
Race 11 BARRONS SUPPLIES STAKES - C2 - 520 The second favourite KNOCKABOUT DOUGY dwelt soon after jumping from the boxes, settling last, however improved along the rail into the first corner and down the back straight, running on for fourth. In the approach to the first corner WHISKY BANDIT checked out off the hindquarters of AQUA GOOFY, both dogs losing momentum settling at the rear of the field and never improving during the running.
Race 12 SUPERPETS SPRINT - C4 - 295 As the lure approached the 295m start for this event the lids opened prematurely, with all eight dogs running a short distance before the lure was pulled up. The dogs with the exception of SHEZ'S CHARM were examined by the Club Veterinary surgeon and cleared to race. The event was re scheduled to 10:50pm, with the restart being undertaken without incident. The trainer of SHEZ'S CHARM was observed to walk his dog from the track, and the dog was declared a late scratching. Following the event a charge was preferred against trainer WT Hodgson in accordance with Rules 135(1) and 305(3). He elected to plead not guilty to the charge, and after hearing the evidence, the Judicial Officer found the charge proven, with Hodgson being fined $100.00. No period of stand down was imposed on SHEZ'S CHARM. An inquiry into the lids opening early established that the Club Electrian, G van Tongeron was of the opinion that the latch of the box lids was not securely fastened when the lids were closed by the starter, V Whiting. The circumstances of the lids opening early on this occasion was identical to the situation that occured at the same boxes on 22 October 2003, and the electrician had established that the fault was not electrical. The boxes had been checked following the first incident by a mechanical and hydraulic engineer, with nothing untoward being discovered. A check of the boxes and lids again on 31 October 2003 found nothing amiss with them. SHEZ'Z CHARM (WT Hodgson) withdrawn without penalty.
