Race 2 | IMPROVERS STAKES - C1 - 457 | Justa Toff and Go Wild Chrissy were the slowest to start, and conceded ground accordingly. Androgyny sped away from the jump to go several lengths in front of the field in an early break - holding until Summer Buzz, in a sustained run from the back of the field gathered in the pacemaker exiting the bend into the home straight and stormed away to the line.Hostile Deed stayed wide after jumping from the outside box, then mid-race moved over to the body of the field and kept momentum for third placing. |
Race 3 | DINSDALE TAVERN DASH - C3 - 375 | Cawbourne Jack flashed away, moved to the rail and kept advantage to the line with little challenge. Pat's Legacy was slow to start, racing at back before making late ground to finish in behind the placegetters. This dog was found to have been severely injured post race and was subject to a lengthy stand down. No 5 Pat's Legacy (GC Farrell). Rule 329 - broken stopper bone, right front foot. Stand down 30 days to 22.11.03. VC held. |
Race 4 | JONELLE ALLEN AT STUD STAKES - C1 - 457 | Even despatch, with Truant moving to midfield on rail on settling - then as clear passage on rail opened up, Truant seized the opportunity, moved to the front and sped away from the field to the line. |
Race 5 | CLUB HOUSE CAFE & BAR STAKES - C2 - 457 | Orana City, an import on debut, justified favouritism after moving to the front early and holding to win - although pressured by Flash Shooter down the straight and with that dog making inroads into the winners margin close to the line. Kedo's Ned, positioned up handy to the lead in the early running, was checked between Calm Domino, moving in, and Orana City on the rail and then went back through the field, was checked again, and finished towards the rear. Evander Phoenix, racing wide at first bend, clear of the field, suddenly went off stride, dipped forward, and finished back. A post race veterinary examination revealed a severe leg injury and the greyhound was euthanised. No 5 Random (K Walsh). Rule 259. Stand down 5 days to 26.10.03. Dog presented. VC held. ( No 7 Evander Phoenix - JE Chatfield- euthanised post race). |
Race 6 | WAIKATO'S WORLD SPRINT - C4/5 - 375 | Stanton Bale was placed third in the early running, trailing on the outer of Onslow Bale and Winsome Hope, until exiting the bend into the straight, where he flared wide, conceding ground and places, but then recovered with a strong surge to storm down the track outer for the win. Aston Marshal was up handy to the leaders in the early running but drifted wide and did not run on. |
Race 7 | TE RAPA TAVERN STAKES - C2 - 457 | Mean Tyler made up late ground, improving from the rear group, to take third place at the line.Masonry took the lead mid-race and held well from the favourite Sunset Coast, that dog having moved from the rear to make a late run along the rail for second. No 3 Blind As (G & S Hayden-Holmes). Rule 259 - throat puncture wound. Stand down 10 days to 31.10.03. VC held. |
Race 8 | ARCH LAWRENCE DISTANCE - C1/2d - 747 | Calm Abiding cleared away in the early running and led a procession to the line, with only Lady Tianne, in a late run for second, providing opposition, albiet from a distance back. |
Race 9 | PAPAMOA TAVERN STAKES - C3 - 457 | Brooklyn Ash launched out of box 5, put a quick break on the field and held decisively, at long odds, to the line. Gozo Lina and Dot Matrix matched strides in the early stage, near the rail, then Gozo Lina was badly checked and put out of contention when the field closed in around her - Gozo Lina went back through the field, was checked again, skewed sideways, scrambled to regain footing and then with Longest Drive, also disadvantaged when Gozo Lina came back, finished at the rear. Kiwi Magic was found to have been injured in a post race examination, and was subject to a stand down. No 8 Kiwi Magic (W Steele). Rule 329 - right front wrist injury. Stand down 10 days to 1.11.03.VC held. |
Race 10 | WAIKATO'S WORLD STAKES - C4/5 - 457 | Winsome Mate jumped quickest and took an early lead until Paddy Power unleashed a withering run along the rail on entering the straight and held from that point to the line. The import on debut, Hot Agent, raced handy to the lead and reflected ability with his second placing. Gold Jed missed the jump noticeably, conceding the field several lengths, and made no marked improvement from there. |
