Health and Safety comment:

Judicial report: Weather: Warm and sunny. The enquiry adjourned on 14 October 2003 into the late scraching of SPEEDWELL BALE was re convened. Trainer RS Parker advised that the dog has sustained a bee sting at Timaru racecourse when being emptied out enroute to the races. The sting was removed and treated at the time with the dog showing no adverse effects. Prior to kennelling the dog again showed no signs of discomfort. He confirmed not advising the Club Veterinary surgeon of the bee sting at kennelling, and in explanation said that as it appeared minor with no adverse effects, he didn't think it was worth mentioning. Likewise the dog had presented for its race without problem, and he first showed signs of lameness enroute to the boxes, being withdrawn following veterinary examination. No further action was taken against trainer Parker, however he was advised to notify the Club Veterinarian of any incident such as this, no matter how insignificant he may consider it to be.
Trainer L Jensen was spoken to regarding him being 12 minutes late for kennelling. He said that he had experienced difficulty in obtaining a suitable flight to Christchurch for both his dog and himself, and when he went to change his air ticket to another flight in the days prior to the meeting, the terms of his ticket precluded him from doing so. He was issued with a warning, and advised of his obligations in regards Rule: 262.
